The Ibanez UE 305 is a multi-effects pedal from Ibanez that combines three pedals from the company's 9 Series into one very large enclosure: the CP-9 Compressor/Limiter, the AD-9 Analog Delay and the CS-9 Stereo Chorus. Pedal of the Day, reviewing the unit in 2016, called the 9 Series pedals "still some of the most sought-after effects around" and described the UE 305 as "a multi effect for the ages"1.
What it does
The UE 305 puts a compressor/limiter, an analog delay and a stereo chorus in one box, each drawn from Ibanez's 9 Series of the early 1980s. Each of the three effects is bypassable with its own individual footswitch, and they can be combined in any configuration. A Master switch bypasses the entire unit1.
On the back panel there are three Output jacks, which let you send the signals wherever you want them to go. The unit also features an Effects Loop for adding more effects into the chain1.
The enclosure itself is unusually large. Pedal of the Day's reviewer noted it is "no joke, this thing is massive"1.
Rarity and collectability
The UE 305 was manufactured in small numbers during 1984-85, and it has since become a rare pedal in vintage collector's collections1. Players looking for one today are generally searching the vintage market rather than a dealer's shelf.
Because the UE 305 was produced only in small numbers in 1984-85, it turns up mainly in vintage collections and second-hand listings rather than in current production1.
Ibanez's multi-effects line did not stop with the UE 305. The company later offered the UE 405, the UE300, the DUE300 Digital and the PUE5 Tube, and its current delay lineup includes the Layer Delayer LD-303.
