The Jackson Audio Modular Fuzz is a fuzz and octave pedal built as a platform: instead of one fixed fuzz circuit, it hosts a series of swappable analog circuit cards, each carrying a different fuzz sound. Swap a card and, as Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio puts it, "you can update your fuzz sound completely with our analog plug-ins and turn your pedal into a whole new pedal with a sim"1. Alongside the fuzz section sits an octave circuit with its own footswitch and volume, so the two can be used together or separately1.
How the modules work
Each module is an analog circuit card that plugs into the pedal and carries a complete fuzz circuit. The idea is not new for the company: Delicious Audio notes that "We saw this concept already in the company's Asabi overdrive"1. The Modular Fuzz Pedal with Octave ships with a Modern Fuzz module installed, and other modules were offered alongside it when Guitar World covered the launch in January 20212.
Module pricing differs between sources: Delicious Audio lists $49.99 per fuzz module as of April 20251, while Guitar World's January 2021 report gives $49 per module2. Guitar World also lists the pedal itself as available now for $279 as of January 20212.
The octave section and the BLEND control
The octave circuit has its own footswitch and volume, separate from the fuzz1. The BLEND control sets how much octave sits in the mix, and it has a second use at the far end of its travel:
"With the BLEND control fully counterclockwise, the octave circuit acts as a boost and is perfect for slamming the front"
In that mode the octave side works as a boost pedal, either pushing the fuzz circuit harder or driving other pedals. Guitarist Doyle Bramhall II is named as using it this way, adding just a little octave to his sound1.
Controls
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| BLEND | Sets the octave amount; fully counterclockwise, the octave circuit acts as a boost1 |
| BASS LEVEL | External knob, adjusts for more or less bass, +/- 20dB1 |
| Footswitches | Separate footswitches and volumes for fuzz and octave1 |
Design
Brad Jackson designed the pedal, and his own words explain the EQ approach1:
"That's why I designed the FUZZ with a 3 band, fully parametric EQ."
The external BASS LEVEL knob with its +/- 20dB range is part of that EQ, letting a player cut or add low end before the fuzz clips. Questions
How do the modules work in the Jackson Audio Modular Fuzz?
The pedal is a platform that hosts swappable analog circuit cards. Each card carries a complete fuzz circuit, so swapping one changes the pedal's fuzz sound entirely. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio describes it as turning the pedal into a whole new pedal with a sim, using what Jackson Audio calls analog plug-ins. The concept had already appeared in the company's Asabi overdrive.
How much does an extra Modular Fuzz module cost?
Delicious Audio's product page, dated April 2025, lists each fuzz module at $49.99. Guitar World's January 2021 news item on the Modular Fuzz Pedal with Octave put the price at $49 per module. The two sources differ slightly, so check current pricing with the maker.
Which module comes installed in the Modular Fuzz with Octave?
The Modular Fuzz Pedal with Octave ships with a Modern Fuzz module already installed. Guitar World reported in January 2021 that other modules were offered alongside it, so players could add further fuzz circuits to the same pedal.
Can the octave be used without the fuzz?
Yes. With the BLEND control fully counterclockwise, the octave circuit acts as a boost, which Jackson Audio describes as perfect for slamming the front of the fuzz circuit or other pedals. Doyle Bramhall II is named as using the BLEND control to add just a little octave to his sound.
Who designed the Jackson Audio Modular Fuzz?
Brad Jackson of Jackson Audio designed the pedal. In a quotation carried by Delicious Audio, he explains that he designed the fuzz with a 3 band, fully parametric EQ, which is why the pedal includes an external BASS LEVEL control with a range of plus or minus 20dB.
