The JAM Pedals TPS Rattler is a distortion pedal in the Rat style, made by JAM Pedals as a limited edition run for viewers of That Pedal Show. On the show that introduced it, Mick and Dan described it as delivering "anything from dynamic, on-the-edge grit through to full on shred-tastic distortion!"1
A Rat-style distortion
The TPS Rattler belongs to the lineage of Rat-style distortion pedals, a family That Pedal Show examined in a dedicated episode. As the show put it, "we took an overview of some Rat-style distortion pedals," and the TPS Rattler sits in that tradition. The circuit is "based around the much-loved LM308 opamp with hard clipping diodes," the arrangement players associate with the ProCo RAT and its descendants1.
JAM Pedals builds several pedals in this family. The standard JAM Pedals Rattler is the regular production version, and in 2024 the company released the Rattler 2, which adds a Mid Boost footswitch, a two-way clipping toggle and a custom opamp. Other editions of the Rattler circuit have appeared over the years, including the "Relic" Rattler and the "Lizard Cream" Rattler ltd.
The That Pedal Show Limited Edition
The TPS Rattler exists because Jannis Anastasakis and the team at JAM Pedals "agreed to make us 100 Limited Edition Rattler pedals especially for viewers of That Pedal Show," as Mick and Dan tell it1. The run was available only from the That Pedal Show Store, with general availability expected "towards the end of July" 20192.
What marks the Limited Edition out is presentation, not circuitry:
- A one-off Limited Edition "Candy Placid Orange" finish, chosen by the show1
- Each of the 100 pedals numbered and signed by JAM Pedals founder Jannis Anastasakis, with the signature found inside the enclosure2
- Sound and functionality identical to the standard issue Rattler, in the show's words: "the sound and functionality is the same as the standard issue one"1
The pedals are sold out. That Pedal Show's own page for the episode carries the notice "THE PEDALS ARE NOW SOLD OUT," dated 24 July 2019, and the pedal appeared again only as a guest on a later episode about tape echo, "Tape Echo: Echo Fix EF-X2 meets Vintage Roland RE-201… And Others," published 26 July 201913.
The episode
The limited edition was introduced in a That Pedal Show video that also included a visit to the JAM Pedals factory, with Jannis Anastasakis appearing alongside Mick and Dan. The video covers the Rat lineage the pedal belongs to, the LM308-based circuit, and the Candy Placid Orange finish, and demonstrates the pedal's sound21.

Questions
Is the JAM Pedals TPS Rattler based on the RAT?
Yes. That Pedal Show describe it as a Rat-style distortion, and note that the circuit is based around the LM308 opamp with hard clipping diodes, the arrangement associated with the ProCo RAT lineage. JAM Pedals founder Jannis Anastasakis worked with the show on the limited edition run of 100 pedals.
How many TPS Rattler Limited Edition pedals were made?
100. Jannis Anastasakis and the team at JAM Pedals agreed to make 100 Limited Edition Rattler pedals especially for viewers of That Pedal Show, and each of the 100 pedals is numbered and signed by Anastasakis, with the signature found inside the enclosure.
Is the TPS Rattler Limited Edition still available?
No. The pedals were only available from the That Pedal Show Store, and as of the show's July 2019 episode on the pedal they were already sold out. The standard JAM Pedals Rattler and the later Rattler 2 remain the ways into the same circuit family.
Does the Limited Edition sound different from the standard Rattler?
No. According to That Pedal Show, the sound and functionality are the same as the standard issue Rattler. What sets the Limited Edition apart is the one-off Candy Placid Orange finish, the numbering, and the founder's signature inside.
Who signed the TPS Rattler pedals?
Each of the 100 pedals is numbered and signed by Jannis Anastasakis, the founder of JAM Pedals. The signature can be found inside the pedal.
What finish does the TPS Rattler Limited Edition have?
A one-off Limited Edition finish called Candy Placid Orange, chosen by That Pedal Show for the run. It is a cosmetic difference only: the sound and functionality match the standard Rattler.
