The Jeds Peds Axis Fuzz kit is a DIY guitar effects pedal kit: a bag of parts and a circuit board you solder up yourself into a working fuzz pedal. The maker describes the circuit as comparing to the Axis Fuzz by Roger Mayer, and offers it in four build options, from a bare PCB to a pedal soldered and built for you1.

Kit versions and build options

Jeds Peds sells the same circuit at several levels of completion, so you can take on as much of the build as you want1:

OptionWhat you get
PCB OnlyJust the plain PCB
PCB & ComponentsPCB, onboard components and any pots and toggle switches
Full KitAs above with undrilled enclosure, supplied with a JP1590B enclosure
Full Kit & DrillingFull kit with drilled enclosure
Pre Built KitBuilt for you, 1 to 4 week build time

The Full Kit is the complete self build: the PCB and components plus the JP1590B enclosure you mount everything in. Paying for the drilling option saves you the job of drilling the enclosure yourself. Whichever self build option you choose, you will need to supply 2 knobs, and Jeds Peds suggests medium sized ones1.

The Pre Built Kit is the only option that arrives assembled. It has a 1 to 4 week build time, carries a 12 month repair warranty, and no returns are accepted on these1.

How hard is the build?

Jeds Peds calls the Axis Fuzz a simple build, but sets expectations honestly: "The kits are enjoyable but can also be challenging." Building one means identifying components, calculating resistor color codes and soldering, so it suits a player with some patience and a soldering iron even if it is not a first-weekend project1. A build guide is available from the maker1.

If you would rather compare kits, Jeds Peds sells several other DIY fuzz builds, including the Red Llama kit, the Fuzz Face kit and the Muff Fuzz kit1.

About the comparison to the Roger Mayer Axis Fuzz

The kit's circuit compares to the Axis Fuzz, and Jeds Peds is explicit about what that means: "There is no endorsement or approval from any manufacturer and this information is for comparison only." In other words, this is Jeds Peds' own kit built around a similar circuit, not a licensed Roger Mayer product1.

Questions

Is the Jeds Peds Axis Fuzz kit hard to build?

Jeds Peds describes the Axis Fuzz as a simple build, but notes that the kits are enjoyable yet can also be challenging. Building one involves identifying components, working out resistor color codes and soldering. If you would rather skip the soldering iron, the maker also sells the circuit as a Pre Built Kit, built for you with a 1 to 4 week build time.

What comes in the Full Kit?

The Full Kit supplies the PCB with its onboard components, any pots and toggle switches, and a JP1590B enclosure. The enclosure is undrilled in the standard Full Kit. You will also need 2 knobs for the kit, and Jeds Peds suggests medium sized ones. A Full Kit & Drilling option adds a drilled enclosure.

Does the kit include a drilled enclosure?

Only if you choose the Full Kit & Drilling option, which is the full kit supplied with a drilled enclosure. The standard Full Kit comes with the same JP1590B enclosure but undrilled, so you would drill it yourself. The PCB Only and PCB & Components options do not include an enclosure at all.

Can I buy just the PCB for the Axis Fuzz kit?

Yes. The PCB Only option is just the plain PCB, for builders who already have the components, hardware and enclosure they need. The next step up is PCB & Components, which adds the onboard components plus any pots and toggle switches.

Does Jeds Peds offer a pre built version?

Yes. The Pre Built Kit is soldered up for you, with a 1 to 4 week build time, priced at £28.00 as of 26 October 2026. It carries a 12 month repair warranty, so if a fault develops the maker will repair it, but no returns are accepted on these pre built pedals.

Is the Jeds Peds Axis Fuzz kit endorsed by the original maker?

No. Jeds Peds states clearly that there is no endorsement or approval from any manufacturer, and that the comparison to the Axis Fuzz is for information only. The kit is Jeds Peds' own take on that circuit, not a licensed Roger Mayer product.
