The JHS Boss DM-2 Mod is a modification that JHS Pedals performs on the Boss DM-2, the analog delay pedal JHS describes as "as legendary as it gets"1. Rather than replacing the pedal, the mod adds a toggle switch to it, so a player keeps the original DM-2 character and gains an extra voicing on top of it. It sits alongside JHS's other work modifying existing pedals, such as the JHS EHX Memory Boy Mod and the JHS Maxon Analog Delay Mod.
What the mod does
The heart of the mod is a low pass filter. JHS describes it this way: "you engage our low pass filter that gives the DM2 a darker more smokey tone that sits perfectly in the mix"1. For a player, that means the repeats can be pushed back behind the dry signal instead of competing with it, which is a common want on an analog delay used for subtle, atmospheric echoes.
The mod is reversible at the flick of a switch. JHS states: "Our mod keeps everything 100% intact to the original form when the toggle is in the down position. When the switch is flipped up, the low pass filter is engaged"1. JHS adds that "you will find new sonic territory and options with your beloved Boss DM2"1.
The DM-2 it is based on
The underlying pedal is the Boss DM-2, an analog delay with three controls: echo, intensity, and repeat rate2. Of these, the Echo knob "adjusts the output level of the echo"3, setting how loud the repeats are against the dry guitar. The mod does not change these controls; it adds the filter toggle alongside them.
This is a modification to an existing pedal, not a standalone product. It requires a Boss DM-2, and the pedal is sent to or worked on by JHS with the switch added.
