The JHS Maxon Analog Delay Mod is a modification service offered by JHS Pedals for the Maxon Analog Delay pedal. Rather than a pedal of its own, it is a change made to a stock Maxon analog delay: JHS alters the bypass circuit so that the pedal continues to produce delay trails even when it is switched off. As JHS puts it, "We take the stock version and give it delay trails when bypassed!"1
For a player, that matters because many analog delays cut their repeats dead the moment you disengage the footswitch. With this mod, a held note or a lead line keeps its echoes fading naturally after you bypass the pedal, which suits players who use the delay as an occasional texture rather than an always-on effect1.
The pedal it modifies
The Maxon Analog Delay line is a family of 100% analog delay pedals distributed in the United States by Godlyke Distributing. The current Maxon AD10 Analog Delay offers 600mS of delay time, works in an FX loop or the front end of an amp, and carries Delay Time, Blend and Repeat controls2. Earlier models in the line, such as the Maxon AD80 Analog Delay and the Maxon AD900 Analog Delay, share the same basic analog delay approach with Delay time, Repeat and Blend controls34.
JHS offers similar modification services for other classic delays, including the JHS Boss DM-2 Mod and the JHS EHX Memory Boy Mod, for players who want trails-on-bypass behavior from pedals that lack it.
This page describes a modification service, not a standalone pedal. The stock Maxon Analog Delay must be supplied for the mod, and the Maxon AD999 Analog Delay is listed as sold out by its distributor5.
If you are after a delay with this kind of behavior built in rather than a modification, JHS's own delay pedals, such as the JHS Panther Delay or the JHS Flight Delay, are covered elsewhere on the site, as is the wider field of Delay Pedals.
