The JHS Mini Foot Fuzz V2 is a compact fuzz pedal from JHS Pedals, released in November 2018 as the second version of the company's Mini Foot Fuzz1. JHS bills the Mini Foot Fuzz line as "Mini Foot...Big Fuzz," packing "1 inch x 3 inch of pure classic fuzz" into a pedalboard-friendly enclosure2. Guitar Pedal X listed it among its mini fuzz selections in 2022 at a list price of $1353.
What it does
Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio described the V2's range this way when it launched: "From gated, low-gain splat to almost infinite sustaining buzz, the Mini Foot Fuzz V2 covers a lot of ground with very li[ttle]"1. In other words, at low Fuzz settings it can produce the short, choked, gated character that suits rhythm playing, while turning the Fuzz knob up takes it into a thick, sustaining fuzz that holds notes almost indefinitely.
Controls
The pedal keeps things deliberately simple. Delicious Audio noted that "The controls on the Mini Foot Fuzz V2 are as simple as it gets with Volume and Fuzz knobs as well as a toggle for high or low gain settings"1. Guitar Pedal X lists the same layout as "Gain : +/-, Volume, Fuzz"3.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Volume | Sets the pedal's output level1 |
| Fuzz | Sets the amount of fuzz from low to high1 |
| Gain toggle (+/-) | Switches between low gain and high gain modes1 |
The toggle's plus mode is where the pedal opens up. Delicious Audio described it as "a classic yet modern high-gain buzz to blow the roof off with"1.
Circuit and background
Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson wrote that the pedal is "Presumably Josh Scott's take on the simple single silicon transistor Bazz Fuss," a minimalist one-transistor fuzz circuit3. That simple design is part of why the whole circuit fits in a mini enclosure.
Versions
The Mini Foot Fuzz has appeared in more than one form:
- V2, the version covered here, released in November 20181
- V3, a later version that JHS sells on its site under the same "Mini Foot...Big Fuzz" tagline2
- Hand Paint edition, a hand-painted variant JHS lists alongside the standard versions5
JHS has continued the line past V2, so a pedal listed simply as "Mini Foot Fuzz" may be a newer version with its own details. Check the version before comparing specifications.
