The JHS Berkeley 1973 California is a fuzz pedal in JHS Pedals' Legends of Fuzz series. It is a tribute to the rarer single op amp 741 version, Version 1, of the Seamoon Fresh Fuzz, and it keeps that circuit's approach simple: two controls and a Mode switch for dialing in vintage fuzz sounds.1
What it does
The Berkeley 1973 California takes its circuit from the Version 1 Seamoon Fresh Fuzz, the version built around a single 741 op amp. Pedal of the Day's review describes it as a pedal where "with just two simple controls and a Mode switch, you can easily dial in vintage fuzz sounds with this black beauty."1
The Legends of Fuzz series is JHS' line of tributes to what the company calls the most important fuzz circuits ever made, and the Berkeley sits in that series alongside other revived designs such as the Legends of Fuzz Bender, the Legends of Fuzz Smiley, the Legends of Fuzz Supreme and the Legends of Fuzz Crimson.1
