The JHS Pedals State Line is a 2-in-1 overdrive pedal released in 2012 as a limited run of 135 units12. It puts two of the company's circuits in a single enclosure: the left side is the Charlie Brown Channel Drive, which JHS describes as "a JTM45 in a box," and the right side is a modified version of the Morning Glory, JHS's Bluesbreaker-style overdrive1. The pedal is discontinued and rare, and JHS lists it on its discontinued-rare page3.

Circuit lineage: Charlie Brown and Morning Glory

The State Line's two sides come straight from JHS's own range. The left side is the Charlie Brown Channel Drive, a circuit still available today as the Charlie Brown V4. The right side is the Morning Glory with special tweaks that JHS says will only be found in this limited run1.

Pedal of the Day's reviewer, Mike B, described what the modification does to the Morning Glory side3:

"the circuit has been beefed up to make it a higher-gain version, while still keeping the tones and smoothness of the original"
Mike B, Pedal of the Day, 29 October 20143

The Morning Glory side traces back to the Bluesbreaker style of overdrive, a lineage Guitar Pedal X describes as "the classic Morning Glory (Bluesbreaker)" circuit4. Players who want the standard version rather than the modded one can look at the current Morning Glory V4.

Controls and the order toggle

The right side carries the same control set as the original Morning Glory: Volume, Drive, Tone, and a Bright Cut toggle3. The pedal's defining feature is how the two sides interact:

  • An on-board toggle switch selects which side runs first or second in the signal chain3
  • Mixing the two sides together gives what the reviewer called "one powerful and incredible-sounding overdrive"3

JHS gives the State Line the same footprint, function, and order toggle as its other dual overdrives, the Double Barrel, Sweet Tea, and Bunrunner1. The Sweet Tea Dual Overdrive and Double Barrel V4 remain in the current lineup, and the same two-circuits-plus-order-toggle idea reappeared in 2026 with the Wanderer, which pairs the Morning Glory with the NOTAKLÖN4.

A limited run that was never repeated

The State Line's scarcity is central to it. JHS's product page describes a limited run of 135 pedals released in 20122, while Pedal of the Day's review put the count slightly lower, at about 130 units, and noted that JHS seemed firm that there would never be another run3. The two figures differ by a handful of units; the maker's own page gives 135.

Mike B's verdict on tracking one down:

"I got something totally unique and rare, making the journey to find one of these beauties that much more rewarding"
Mike B, Pedal of the Day, 29 October 20143

The State Line is out of production and appears on JHS's discontinued-rare page3. It turns up only on the used market, and there is no current version of this exact Charlie Brown plus modified Morning Glory pairing.

Questions

Is the JHS State Line still in production?

No. The State Line was a limited 2012 release and is no longer made. JHS lists it on its discontinued and rare products page, and Pedal of the Day's reviewer noted that JHS was firm that there would never be another run. Anyone wanting one today has to hunt for it secondhand, which is part of why the reviewer described finding one as rewarding.

How many JHS State Line pedals were made?

JHS's own product page describes the State Line as a limited run of 135 pedals released in 2012. Pedal of the Day's review put the count at about 130 units. The two figures are close, and both point to the same thing: a small run that was never repeated.

Which JHS pedals is the State Line based on?

The State Line combines two JHS circuits in one enclosure. The left side is the Charlie Brown Channel Drive, which JHS describes as a JTM45 in a box. The right side is a modified version of the Morning Glory, the company's Bluesbreaker-style overdrive, beefed up for more gain while keeping the original's tones and smoothness.

Can the two sides of the State Line be run in either order?

Yes. An on-board toggle switch lets you decide which side runs first and which runs second in the signal chain. JHS gives the State Line the same footprint, function, and order toggle as its Double Barrel, Sweet Tea, and Bunrunner dual overdrives.

What does the Bright Cut toggle do on the State Line?

The Bright Cut toggle sits on the right side of the pedal, the modified Morning Glory side, alongside Volume, Drive, and Tone controls. It carries over from the original Morning Glory layout, where it trims brightness from the overdrive signal.
