The Joyo Atmosphere, also sold as the Joyo R-14 Atmosphere, is a digital reverb pedal from Chinese builder Joyo, part of the company's R series of low-cost effect pedals1. Launched in November 2019, it packs nine digital reverb types into a pedalboard-friendly enclosure, with chrome knobs and illuminated trim that Guitar.com's reviewer found gave it a sleek, premium look23. It lists for $892.
Delicious Audio called it the most affordable multi-mode reverb with more than three algorithms on the market, selling well under $100 as of 20244. On JHS Pedals, Josh Scott reviewed it at about $90 and said of its more unusual modes: "echo verb, shimmer, comet, rewind, forest pulse-- this pedal just devolves into a bunch of crazy reverbs"5.
The nine reverb modes
A nine-way selector switch on the pedal chooses between the nine built-in digital reverb types: Spring, Church, Plate, Eko-Verb, Shimmer, Comet, Rewind, Forest and Pulse62.
The most familiar settings are the plate, church and spring modes, with six more adventurous algorithms alongside them7. Guitar.com listed what Joyo says each of the better-known modes does2:
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Spring | A "classic spring reverb tank" |
| Church | A "huge room reverb" |
| Plate | A familiar plate reverb |
| Eko-Verb | Combines reverb with delay |
| Shimmer | Joyo describes it as feeling like a "shimmer in a dream" |
| Pulse | Combines reverb with tremolo |
gearnews described Pulse as a fluttering reverb effect1. The remaining modes, Comet, Rewind and Forest, round out the selector's nine positions6.
The controls: Mix, Decay, Tone and Trail
The pedal's control set, as listed by the maker, consists of Mix, Decay, Tone and Mod knobs, a Trail toggle and the reverb type selector6. Delicious Audio's take was that "knobs for mix, decay, tone and modulation give the player just enough control"4.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Mix | Controls the volume of the effect2 |
| Decay | Controls the length of the effect2 |
| Tone | Colors the sound with an EQ tweak2 |
| Mod | Controls the depth of any modulation effects in play2 |
| Trail toggle | Lets the reverb continue ringing out after disengaging the pedal2 |
| Selector | Nine-way switch choosing the reverb mode2 |
The Trail switch is the one that ambient players will notice most. Delicious Audio noted that "a trails toggle switch adds a feature many modern ambient guitarists can't do without"4. With it engaged, the reverb tail keeps sounding after you switch the pedal off, rather than stopping dead.
What reviewers said
Reviewers have been positive about the value on offer, with some caveats about its suitability for touring71.
"All in all, this pedal is a good proposition as it's rich in controls, given the price."
In gearnews' 2024 roundup of budget reverb pedals, Stefan Wyeth wrote that the R-14 "might not be the best pedal to take on tour with you, but it's certainly an inspiring tool to add to your home studio," appealing to guitarists and electronic musicians overall7. Josh Scott of JHS Pedals, who has praised Joyo's R series as "the perfect budget pedals," covered the Atmosphere in his review of the line5.
Not the only Atmosphere
The name "Atmosphere" also belongs to other pedals. Dr. Scientist makes The Atmosphere, a reverb usable with guitar, bass, synths and other instruments8, and Aerospace Audio has released an Atmosphere V39. Neither is related to the Joyo pedal. Within Joyo's own range, the Atmosphere sits alongside other reverb offerings such as the Joyo Space Verb and the later JF-20 Moist Reverb, a 32-bit DSP pedal with three modes.

Questions
What is Eko-Verb on the Joyo Atmosphere?
Eko-Verb is one of the Atmosphere's nine reverb modes. It combines reverb with delay, and gearnews describes it as a combination of echo and repeating reverb, similar in concept to the legendary Roland Space Echo. It sits alongside the more familiar spring, plate and church modes on the nine-way selector.
Does the Joyo Atmosphere have reverb trails?
Yes. A Trail toggle switch lets the reverb continue ringing out after you disengage the pedal, instead of cutting off abruptly. Delicious Audio calls this a feature many modern ambient guitarists cannot do without. The switch is one of the pedal's listed controls alongside Mix, Decay, Tone and Mod.
Is the Joyo R-14 the same pedal as the Joyo Atmosphere?
Yes. The Joyo Atmosphere is also known as the R-14 Atmosphere, part of Joyo's R series of low-cost effect pedals. Press coverage from 2019 announced it under both names, and the maker's product page lists it as the R-14 ATMOSPHERE with the same nine reverb types and controls.
