The Kodex Audio GFX-91w is a mono digital delay pedal from Kodex Audio, a German company formerly known as Ground FX1. Its headline feature is delay time: up to ten seconds of it, set either by knob or by a dedicated tap tempo footswitch12. A 1.3" OLED display shows both BPM and millisecond values along with other parameters, so you always know exactly where your repeats sit1.
The delay is digital, but the dry signal path is all analog, which means your original tone passes through uncolored when the effect is engaged2. Modulation is built in and controlled by the Age slider2.
Controls and features
The GFX-91w pairs two footswitches, Tap Tempo and Bypass, with a set of sliders and a Time control1. The Time knob works across three switchable ranges, selected with a Range button: 10 to 400ms, 100 to 1000ms, and 500 to 9999ms2. That range switching is what lets one knob cover everything from tight slapback to the full ten seconds.
| Control or feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Time knob | Sets delay time, up to 10 seconds1 |
| Range button | Switches the Time knob between 10-400ms, 100-1000ms and 500-9999ms ranges2 |
| Age slider | Adds modulation to the repeats2 |
| Tap Tempo footswitch | Sets delay time in BPM by tapping1 |
| Bypass footswitch | Engages and bypasses the effect1 |
| OLED display | Shows BPM/MS values, subdivisions, tails status and presets12 |
Beyond tap tempo, the pedal offers rhythmic subdivisions: quarter note, half note, eighth note, dotted eighth, quarter note triplet and eighth note triplet2. Five on-board presets let you store sounds, and Manual mode puts you back on the knobs and sliders directly12.
Mono, not stereo
The GFX-91w is a mono delay, with no stereo ins or outs. Stefan Karlsson at Guitar Pedal X flagged this as the one thing that kept it from fitting his own setup1:
"It's a Mono delay pedal - so not really perfect for my stereo rig"1
For a player with a simple amp-and-pedalboard rig, that is no limitation at all, and it is worth knowing before you build a stereo board around it. The GFX-91w is a mono delay pedal, not a stereo one1.
Versions and availability
The pedal comes in several different colourways, including a glow-in-the-dark edition1. As of Guitar Pedal X's February 2024 profile it was available from the Kodex Audio Webstore and Effekt Boutique1.
What reviewers said
Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson reviewed the GFX-91w and called it "a pretty neat and actually quite potent digital delay with really smart parameters and controls," placing it among the top candidates for a mono rig overall1.
