The RoyalBreaker is a distortion pedal from Krozz Devices, a Brazilian maker, and it was the company's first foray into dirt boxes1. Guitar Pedal X describes it as a Rat-style Distortion/OpAmp Fuzz with fiery, explosive, searing sustaining distortion2, and the design takes its cues from the White Face Rat and Turbo Rat with what that reviewer calls a Marshall-esque core3. It launched in December 2024 at $219 direct from Krozz Devices in Brazil34, and it went on to take a SILVER placing in Guitar Pedal X's roundup of 2025's best new distortion pedals4.
Gain, clipping and EQ: the circuit
At the heart of the pedal is a TL072 op-amp, which Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson described as a superb sounding core, driving the Gain output all the way up to +68dB3. Around it sit the controls listed below4.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Level | Output volume |
| Rising | Silicon > LED variable clipping control3 |
| Gain | Up to +68dB3 |
| Active Bass | Baxandall bass band, centerd on 700Hz3 |
| Low End | Fat + Fuzzy / Tight two-voice switch4 |
| Active Treble | Baxandall treble band, centerd on 700Hz3 |
The EQ is an active Baxandall Bass and Treble design centring on the 700Hz frequency cluster, with each band targeting frequencies above and below that point3. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio notes that the two-knob EQ section allows mid-scooped tones with the Bass and Treble knobs turned up, and mid-humped tones when they are turned down1.
The Rising control is the pedal's most unusual feature. De Gregorio explains that it adjusts the distortion's compression level, delivering either saturated tones or more open and touch-sensitive tones1. Karlsson describes the same control as Silicon > LED variable clipping3, so it sweeps the clipping character between those two elements rather than switching between fixed settings.
The two voices: UP and Tight
A toggle switch selects between the pedal's two voices1. According to Guitar Pedal X, UP delivers full-on sizzle, while Tight removes it while retaining rich texture2. De Gregorio frames the same switch in practical terms: the two voices deliver a more aggressive distortion for lead parts, or a drier and more focused sound for defined yet punchy rhythm parts1.
What reviewers said
Guitar Pedal X has reviewed the RoyalBreaker twice, and both reviews are strongly positive. In his 2025 review, Karlsson called it possibly his favorite core-sounding Rat Distortion to date2. In his year-end roundup, he wrote:
"One of the all-time best sounding Rat style distortions - with a heavy dose of Marshall Flavour - really fiery and fierce sounding - and fat to boot."
That roundup placed the RoyalBreaker among three SILVER awards, alongside the Blue Colander Grimrobe and the Fortin Meshuggah4.
Availability
The RoyalBreaker is available for orders on the Krozz Devices webstore3. Guitar Pedal X lists it at $219 direct from the maker in Brazil, and notes that at FX Pedal Planet in the UK it retails for the equivalent of £2192.
