The LEHLE DUAL EXPRESSION is an active, wear-free expression pedal from Lehle, built around a magnetic Hall sensor instead of the mechanical potentiometer found in conventional expression pedals. The sensor measures the position of a built-in magnet using the Hall effect, named after Edwin Hall, and two digital potentiometers working with analog voltages generate the expression data. Lehle says this technology allows distinctly more accurate operation than pedals with mechanical potentiometers, with no mechanical wear and therefore no maintenance or complicated adjustments1.

It carries two expression outputs plus a USB socket, so one pedal can drive two devices at once, act as a switch for amp channel switching, or work as a MIDI-USB expression pedal connected to a computer. Lehle lists its typical uses as a classic expression pedal, with a Kemper Profiler Head or Stage, multi effects pedals, effect pedals and amplifier channel switching, synthesizers, CV regulation for modular synthesizers, and as a MIDI-USB expression pedal21. It is currently in production3.

What it does: a wear-free Hall sensor expression pedal

An expression pedal usually controls a specific value of an effects device, such as the intensity of a wah or reverb, or the mix of a delay. Where a conventional pedal turns a mechanical potentiometer that wears over time, the Dual Expression's rocker moves a magnet past a Hall sensor that measures the strength of magnetic fields without contact2.

Lehle's founder Burkhard Georg Lehle describes the origin of the design:

"we developed an expression pedal that uses the same mechanical wear-free magnet sensor technology5."

This is the same sensor technology Lehle uses in its volume pedal series5. The pedal is built with low-friction bearings of a high-performance polymer, in an enclosure Lehle describes as extremely robust, and every assembly is made and tested in Germany2. An adjusting screw on the side sets the pedal feel: turning it clockwise tightens the brake for a heavier feel, counterclockwise gives a lighter feel2.

Outputs and socket modes

The pedal has two expression outputs, a 50K socket and a 10K socket, plus a USB socket and a socket for an external power supply21. Together the two outputs can control nearly all common devices with expression inputs from 5kΩ to 100kΩ, regardless of whether they use TS, TRS or RTS wiring26.

SocketWorks withSocket modes
50KDevices with expression inputs from 25kΩ to 100kΩPolarity Autodetection, TRS, RTS2
10KDevices with expression inputs from 5kΩ to 20kΩPolarity Autodetection, TRS, RTS, momentary switch, latching switch2

In Polarity Autodetection mode, the pedal measures the polarity (RTS, TRS or TS) and adapts automatically once a jack is connected, so you do not have to look up a device's wiring standard first2.

The 10K socket as a switch

The 10K socket can alternatively be set to work as a latching or momentary switch when the pedal is pushed fully to toe position. Connected to an amp, the channel can be changed; connected to a switch input of a digital device, any desired function can be controlled7. In the factory setting the relay triggers in the last few millimetres of toe travel, and the trigger point can be adjusted via the Lehle Verwalter editor2.

The two switch modes behave differently:

  • Momentary switch: a contact is made between tip and sleeve once the rocker reaches a specific position; the rear LED of the 10K socket flashes blue, and the front LED is white when contact is made2.
  • Latching switch: the contact stays closed until the rocker reaches the position again; the rear LED is consistently blue, and the front LED is white while the contact is closed2.

The switching itself uses a gold-plated relay, part of Lehle's practice of using relays and slide switches with gold-plated contacts for zero-loss switching of low-level signals7.

Controls on the pedal

ControlWhat it does
50K socket mode buttonSelects whether the 50K socket provides TRS, RTS or TS expression data1
10K socket mode buttonSelects expression data (TRS/RTS/TS) or latching or momentary switch mode for the 10K socket2

Polarity of the switching can be switched and stored using the soft-push buttons7.

Power: 9 to 15V DC, 100mA

The pedal runs on a 9 to 15 V DC supply with a maximum current consumption of 100 mA. Polarity is of no importance: the supply voltage is internally rectified and stabilized to guarantee trouble-free operation2. There is no battery; the pedal needs a current supply to work1.

When the pedal is connected to a computer via USB, either as a MIDI-USB expression pedal or for a firmware update, no external power supply is needed21. To avoid noise, Lehle recommends a single power supply or a galvanically isolated output of a multi power supply1.

Lehle products bearing the appropriate symbol rectify, filter and stabilize the input voltage from the power supply socket and double it internally to 18V7.

USB, MIDI and the Lehle Verwalter editor

Through the USB socket the pedal sends MIDI data to a computer. By default it sends control change command 11 on MIDI channel 1; the MIDI channel, CC controller and minimum and maximum values can all be set in the free online editor LEHLE VERWALTER21. The same editor handles calibration, editing and firmware updates over USB2.

A manual firmware update follows this order2:

  1. Press and hold the 50K button while connecting the USB cable to the pedal.
  2. Open the removable disc labeled "CRP DISABLD".
  3. Delete the file "firmware" or "firmware.bin".
  4. Copy the new .bin file onto the disc.

No additional power supply is needed during the update2.

Calibration and factory reset

To enter the calibration process menu, disconnect the power supply, press and hold the 10K soft touch button, and reconnect power. Within 5 seconds, the 50K button calibrates the pedal range; within 3 seconds, the 10K button sets the relay trigger point2.

A factory reset uses the same entry: disconnect power, press and hold the 10K soft touch button and reconnect power. After approximately 3 seconds the LEDs go off and the pedal reboots with all settings and calibration reset2. Lehle's support address for questions is support@lehle.com2.

Mounting and size

The pedal can be mounted to a pedalboard plate using its prepared fixing system, which needs 4 screws (4.2×13) and 4 M4 washers. Lehle recommends 3M Dual Lock over velcro, and replacement feet, screw and 3M Dual Lock sets are available at lehle-components.com2.

Compared with the Lehle Mono Volume, the weight was reduced by 50 percent and the size by 35 percent, and the Dual Expression is 2 cm flatter while keeping the same pedal range2.

What reviewers said

Gearnews profiled the pedal in its February 2026 expression pedal buying guide at $205.00 USD (£185.00 GBP / 219.00 EUR)4:

"Users repeatedly praise its very low noise floor and consistent sweep behavior."

The same guide notes that reviews and forum feedback consistently highlight how smooth and predictable the sweep is across the entire range, and how the dual circuitry remains isolated, with users also repeatedly praising its very low noise floor and consistent sweep behavior4.

Questions

Does the Lehle Dual Expression need a power supply?

Yes, it needs either a 9 to 15V DC power supply or a USB connection. There is no battery. When it is connected to a computer via USB as a MIDI-USB expression pedal or for a firmware update, no external power supply is needed. Polarity of the power supply does not matter because the voltage is internally rectified and stabilized.

Can the Lehle Dual Expression switch amp channels?

Yes. The 10K socket can be set to work as a latching or momentary switch when the pedal is pushed fully to toe position, so the channel of an amp can be changed, or any function of a digital device's switch input can be controlled. In the factory setting the relay triggers in the last few millimetres of toe travel, and the trigger point can be adjusted in the Lehle Verwalter editor.

Does the Lehle Dual Expression work with a Kemper?

Yes. Lehle lists the Kemper Profiler Head and Stage among the pedal's typical uses, along with multi effects pedals, effect pedals, amplifiers, synthesizers and modular systems. Both outputs can control nearly all common devices with expression inputs from 5kΩ to 100kΩ.

Can I use the Lehle Dual Expression with a modular synth?

Yes. It can manipulate the control voltage (CV) of a modular synthesizer using a TRS-to-two-TS cable, in 6.3 mm or 3.5 mm format. Note that it can process voltages of a maximum of 10 V; higher voltages are blocked by diodes to protect the electronics.

How do I calibrate the Lehle Dual Expression?

Disconnect the power, press and hold the 10K soft touch button, then reconnect power to enter the calibration menu. Within 5 seconds, use the 50K button to calibrate the pedal range, or within 3 seconds use the 10K button to set the relay trigger point. Calibration can also be done through the free Lehle Verwalter editor over USB.

How much does the Lehle Dual Expression weigh?

It weighs 766 g. Compared with the Lehle Mono Volume, the weight was reduced by 50 percent and the size by 35 percent, and it is 2 cm flatter while keeping the same pedal range. It measures 200 mm long, 90 mm wide and 47 mm tall overall.
