The Loe Sounds Cha'Cha Russian Muff Fuzz is a boutique fuzz pedal built on a Big Muff variant in the Russian Muff style. Loe Sounds designed it to preserve note clarity, so chords keep their definition where a fuzz often smears them into mush. Guitar Pedal X listed it at $175 in its roundup of the best new fuzz pedals of 20231.
What it does
The Cha'Cha sits in the family of Fuzz Pedals descended from the Big Muff, the sustain-heavy fuzz that has spawned countless variants. The Russian Muff style it draws on is known for a smoother character than the fuzzier American versions: the original green Russian Big Muff has been described by bassist Zach, writing on the Guitar FX Layouts blog, as "massive and the fuzz is smooth and creamy"2. The Cha'Cha takes that foundation and tunes it for chord work, with what Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson called "their usual enhanced harmonics" among Loe Sounds' Aisha and Fiona Big Muff variants1.
What reviewers said
Guitar Pedal X reviewed the Cha'Cha in its 2023 fuzz roundup and came away split. Karlsson praised its texture but flagged one shortcoming1:
"could do with a little more volume while it does have a fantastic breakup texture - just doesn't get quite loud enough"
In other words, the pedal's breakup character earned strong words, but players who run fuzz at the front of a loud amp may find its maximum output limiting1.
