The Mesa/Boogie Stowaway Input Buffer is a buffer pedal: a utility unit that sits on a pedalboard to preserve the guitar's signal, rather than a tone-shaping effect like an overdrive or delay. MusicRadar reported it on 28 July 2016 as part of Mesa/Boogie's entry into what the publication called the signal management game, alongside the High-Wire and two Clearlink units1.
What it does
A buffer's job is to drive the signal down the chain so that long cable runs and multiple pedals do not dull the guitar's high end. The Stowaway is Mesa/Boogie's take on that role, described by MusicRadar as "the Stowaway Input Buffer"1. It belongs to a crowded field of dedicated buffers, among them the TC Electronic Bonafide Buffer, the JHS Pedals Little Black Buffer and the Empress Effects Buffer.
Mesa/Boogie builds the Stowaway in Petaluma, California, and, as MusicRadar put it, it "promises the utmost in components and signal integrity"1.
