The Mission Engineering SP-H9 is an expression pedal made by Mission Engineering as a product-specific controller for the Eventide H9. Where a general-purpose expression pedal has to be matched to whatever pedal it drives, the SP-H9 is specifically calibrated for the H9, Eventide's multi-effects stompbox platform1.
It was announced on 3 May 2016 at a list price of $139, and was reported as available at that time1.
What it does
The SP-H9 gives an H9 owner hands-free control over the pedal's parameters: rocking the treadle sweeps whatever expression-assigned function the H9 is set to, in the way an expression pedal does on any multi-effects unit. What sets it apart from a generic pedal is the calibration: Mission Engineering built it around the H9's requirements rather than as a universal design1.
Two features do the extra work:
- Integrated switch: a built-in switch engages repeats and other H9 functions, so delay repeats or similar functions can be triggered from the pedal itself without reaching down to the H91.
- External aux switch input: a jack accepts an external auxiliary switch for remote tap tempo and flex control, the H9's assignable control function1.
For a player running an H9 Max on a board, that combination means the pedal handles both sweeping and switching duties in one footprint1.
Context: the H9 it is built for
The Eventide H9 is a multi-effects stompbox that runs Eventide's algorithm library, including the PitchFuzz algorithm Eventide introduced to the platform in 20172. The H9 Max version comes loaded with the algorithms from all four Eventide stompboxes plus H9-exclusive algorithms, and connects wirelessly over Bluetooth to the H9 Control app for Windows, OSX or iOS for preset management and live control3. The SP-H9 slots into that setup as the physical, foot-operated controller.
Where it sits in Mission's range
The SP-H9 is a product-specific expression pedal, built for Eventide's platform rather than as a general-purpose controller1. Mission Engineering lists it as available now, priced at $1391.
