The Molten Voltage Delaytion is a programmable analog delay controller, not a delay pedal in itself. It is designed to control the MXR Carbon Copy and the Malekko Ekko 616, two bucket-brigade analog delays whose delay time is normally set only by a knob on the pedal. The Delaytion sits in their clock circuit instead: it feeds the delay a clock signal, which lets a player tap in a precise delay time, store presets, and recall them from a footswitch unit12.
Molten Voltage describes it as a "Programmable, Tap Tempo Analog Delay Controller"1, and the manual calls it "a programmable Analog Delay Controller, designed to control the MXR Carbon Copy, Malekko Ekko 616, and any" delay modified to accept its clock signal2. The controlled delay keeps its analog signal path; the Delaytion replaces the part of the circuit that sets the delay time.
What it does for a player
An analog delay's repeat time depends on a clock that steps the bucket-brigade chip. On a stock Carbon Copy or Ekko 616, that clock is turned by the delay knob, so matching a tempo means guessing at the knob position. The Delaytion generates the clock instead, which gives the player21:
- Precision Tap Tempo: tap the repeat time in rather than dialing it by ear2
- Four Preset Storage: save settings and switch between them2
- Manual control: the delay time can still be changed by hand with Delaytion's delay knob3
- Maximum delay time: 600 mS on the MXR Carbon Copy and Malekko Ekko 6162
Saving a sound is a two-step operation: set the controller the way you like it, then toggle the WRITE switch down and up, and the program is stored at the current program location2. The active program is shown on the Program LED; Program 1 is indicated by the LED being off2.
Molten Voltage also lists "Solid, Professional-Grade construction" among the unit's features1.
Which pedals it controls, and the modification route
The Delaytion is built as a controller for the MXR Carbon Copy analog delay1. Its maker lists Precision Tap Tempo among its features, and its programs are stored with the WRITE Switch: once the pedal is set the way you like, toggling the WRITE Switch down then up stores the program at the current program location2. Program 1 is indicated by the Program LED being off2. The pedal carried a list price of $149 USD, and Molten Voltage publishes an owner's manual covering its operation3.
Power and connections
The Delaytion runs on a 9V DC supply with a 2.1mm, tip negative (center negative) barrel connector, rated at 100mA minimum, plugged into its DC9V power jack2.
The manual specifies a 100mA minimum supply and a tip negative connector. A supply that does not meet these requirements falls outside the warranty conditions, which require an approved power supply2.
The MIDI Delaytion
Molten Voltage also makes the MIDI Delaytion, a version of the same controller with MIDI added. Like the Delaytion, it is a programmable Analog Delay Controller for the MXR Carbon Copy and Malekko Ekko 6164, and it controls modified versions of those delays5. Its manual is version 1.0, published in 20144.
What the MIDI version adds:
| Feature | Delaytion | MIDI Delaytion |
|---|---|---|
| Presets | Four2 | 1281 |
| MIDI Clock sync | No | Yes1 |
| MIDI IN / THRU jacks | No | Yes4 |
| CLOCK OUT jack (RCA) | No | Yes4 |
| Modulation rate and depth | Standard | Expanded4 |
The MIDI Delaytion connects to the modified analog delay with a standard RCA cable from its CLOCK OUT jack4. It receives MIDI on Channel 1 or Channel 15, selected during setup by turning the DEPTH control: full left is Channel 1, full right is Channel 154. When the MIDI/Pot selection is set to Pot, the delay time can still be set manually with the DELAY knob4. The product page also lists Modulation Rate and Depth controls among its features6.
RockBoard's PedalPedia listing gives the MIDI Delaytion's power as 9V DC center negative with a 100mA current draw5.
Warranty and support
Both units carry the same warranty terms. Molten Voltage warrants the Delaytion and the MIDI Delaytion for two years from the date of purchase against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service, provided an approved power supply is used and the unit is operated consistent with the instructions24. Two conditions apply:

Questions
Which delay pedals does the Molten Voltage Delaytion control?
The Delaytion is designed to control the MXR Carbon Copy and the Malekko Ekko 616 analog delays. Molten Voltage also published a DIY tutorial for modifying the Ekko 616 MK II to accept the Delaytion clock signal, and the controller can work with other delays that are modified to accept its clock signal.
How many presets can the Delaytion store?
The original Delaytion stores four presets. The MIDI Delaytion expands this to 128 presets and can sync to MIDI Clock. Presets are saved with the WRITE switch, toggled down then up, and the active program is shown on the Program LED.
What power does the Molten Voltage Delaytion use?
It runs on a 9V DC power supply with a 2.1mm, tip negative (center negative) connector, rated at 100mA minimum. The MIDI Delaytion is also specified at 9V DC center negative with a 100mA current draw. No battery operation is mentioned.
What is the warranty on the Molten Voltage Delaytion?
Molten Voltage warrants both the Delaytion and the MIDI Delaytion for two years from the date of purchase against defects in materials and workmanship, provided an approved power supply is used and the instructions are followed. Proof of purchase is required for warranty repairs, and any user repair attempts void the warranty.
What is the difference between the Delaytion and the MIDI Delaytion?
The MIDI Delaytion adds a MIDI IN jack and a MIDI THRU jack, expands preset storage from four to 128 presets, syncs to MIDI Clock, and offers expanded modulation rate and depth control. It also has a CLOCK OUT jack (RCA) for connecting to the modified analog delay, and its delay time can still be set manually with the DELAY knob.
