The Your and You're is an "over the top synthy fuzz" from Montreal Assembly, inspired by circuits like the "crash sync" circuit by John Hollis but rebuilt from the ground up to more easily accept CV or an expression pedal. Its sound comes from hard syncing an oscillator to the output of a fuzz circuit and then mixing both outputs together, which the maker describes as a rather gated square wave sound with a sort of filter sweep when the oscillator frequency is adjusted1. It sits in the wider family of fuzz pedals, but with a synth-like character most fuzzes do not have.

How it sounds and how you control it

The tone knob adjusts the frequency of the oscillator, producing that filter sweep sound, and the same parameter can be driven from an expression pedal or a 0-5V control voltage1. Delicious Audio's Griffin Jennings, writing in a buying guide to unusual fuzzes, called it "This squealing, synth-like, two-knob fuzz pedal" and noted it is a lot simpler than the Count to 5, the lo-fi delay/sampler that put Montreal Assembly on the map. He added that "The oscillating tone control can be manipulated via an expression pedal, which allows for live experimentation with resonance and feedback"4.

Power and bypass

The pedal requires less than 30mA at 9V DC and uses the typical 2.1mm negative tip power connector. Montreal Assembly states that the pedal is true bypass1. The low current draw means it fits comfortably on a standard daisy chain or isolated supply output.

Blem units and finishes

Montreal Assembly sells Blem units at a discount: "Blems are 100% functional but may have minor issues with the paint finish or the engraving"1. The pedal base page lists a wide range of finishes, including blue blem w/mismatched backplate, white blem, green, pink, hot pink blem, green blem, pink blem, mismatched green, mismatched pink, telemagenta, and telemagenta blem5. A Gray finish variant is listed at 100.00 USD on sale at 75.00 USD2.

A Blem is a cosmetic-seconds unit: fully functional, with possible minor paint or engraving flaws. If finish matters to you, pick a standard finish; if price matters more, a Blem is the same circuit.

Questions

Can you control the Your and You're with an expression pedal?

Yes. Montreal Assembly rebuilt the circuit from the ground up to more easily accept CV or an expression pedal, and the expression input takes either an expression pedal or a 0-5V control voltage to adjust the oscillator frequency. Delicious Audio's Griffin Jennings notes that the oscillating tone control can be manipulated via an expression pedal, which allows for live experimentation with resonance and feedback.

What is oscillator sync in a fuzz pedal?

In the Your and You're, the sound is generated by hard syncing an oscillator to the output of a fuzz circuit, and then mixing both outputs together. Montreal Assembly describes the result as a rather gated square wave sound with a sort of filter sweep sound when the frequency of the oscillator is adjusted with the tone knob or an expression pedal.

Is the Montreal Assembly Your and You're true bypass?

Yes. Montreal Assembly states plainly on the product page that the pedal is true bypass, so your guitar's signal passes through untouched when the effect is switched off.

What power supply does the Your and You're need?

The pedal requires less than 30mA at 9V DC and uses the typical 2.1mm negative tip power connector. That low current draw means almost any standard pedalboard power supply output can run it.

What is a Blem pedal?

A Blem is a discounted unit sold directly by the maker. Montreal Assembly says its Blems are 100% functional but may have minor issues with the paint finish or the engraving, so the circuit is unaffected and only the cosmetics differ.
