The MXR EVH30 5150 Chorus is a chorus pedal, the effect type that doubles your signal with a slightly detuned, delayed copy to add width and movement. It carries the EVH name, and MXR documents it alongside the MXR EVH 5150 Chorus. This page gathers what the maker's manual gives a player: the level and tone controls, the bypass behavior, the noise floor and the current draw1.
Controls
The manual lists three controls that shape what goes into the chorus and what comes out1:
| Control | Settings | What they do |
|---|---|---|
| Input Level | -20dB, -35dB, -50dB | Pads the signal going into the pedal |
| Treble | +12dB, -16dB, 60kHz | Cuts or boosts the high end |
| Output Level | -20dB, -35dB | Pads the pedal's output |
The Input Level switch is worth noting if you run the pedal after a hot overdrive or a line-level source: the -20dB, -35dB and -50dB settings give you three stages of padding to keep the input from being overdriven1. The Output Level switch then trims what the pedal sends downstream, at -20dB or -35dB1.
Bypass and signal specs
The pedal offers both true bypass and buffered bypass1. True bypass removes the pedal's circuit from the chain when it is off; the buffered mode keeps a driver stage in the circuit, which can help preserve the signal over long cable runs and crowded boards. The input impedance is 470KΩ and the output impedance is 4.7kΩ1.
The manual lists a noise floor of -89dBV1, which is the level of the pedal's own hiss with no signal playing.
Power
The manual gives a current draw of 95mA1. That is high enough that a battery is not the practical option, and it is worth checking against what your power supply delivers per outlet before adding it to a daisy chain.
The 95mA current draw1 is high for a compact pedal, so make sure your power supply output can supply that much current.
Where it sits among MXR's choruses
MXR's chorus range runs from the compact MXR Micro Chorus and MXR Analog Chorus to the stereo models like the MXR Stereo Chorus and the artist-signed MXR Wylde Audio Chorus. The EVH30 sits in that artist line, documented by MXR with the level-switching and treble controls described above1. For the wider picture of the effect type, see the Chorus Pedals page.
