The MXR M-134 Stereo Chorus is a stereo chorus pedal made by Jim Dunlop. It puts out a modulated, doubled version of your signal on two outputs for a wide, layered chorus sound, and despite the name it also works as a straight mono chorus. Guitar World, reviewing it in a 2013 buying guide, called it "one of the best stereo chorus pedals on the market" and listed it at an MSRP of $314 at that time1.
Controls
The pedal keeps things simple: two knobs set the chorus character and a third shapes how far it goes. Guitar World described the workflow this way: "you can get started with the Rate and Width knobs then go crazy with the Intensity knob"1.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Rate | Sets the speed of the chorus modulation1 |
| Width | Sets the depth of the modulation1 |
| Intensity | Further tone shaping, dialing in how pronounced the effect is1 |
Stereo and mono use
The M-134 has stereo outputs, so you can send the chorus to two amps or a stereo rig for the full width the effect is built around. Guitar World noted that "despite its name, you can get some great mono chorus as well, but don't forget those stereo outputs"1. The manual also specifies a 2:1 noise reduction ratio2.
What reviewers said
Guitar World's Paul Riario, writing in a 2013 guide to pedals for 70s-style sounds, summed the pedal up this way:
Guitar World's reviewer called the M134 a sturdy, good-looking pedal, and noted that it lives up to MXR's own press claim that it will "remind you how cool chorus can be"1.
Related chorus pedals
MXR and Dunlop make several other chorus and modulation pedals that share board space with the M-134, including the MXR Analog Chorus, the MXR Micro Chorus, the MXR M234 Analog Chorus, the MXR Wylde Audio Chorus and the MXR EVH 5150 Chorus.
