The Fates is a chorus and vibrato pedal from Mythos Pedals, and the company's first modulation pedal1. It is an analog BBD design built around the MN3207 bucket brigade chip, made as an homage to the classic Japanese chorus units of the 1980s, specifically in the spirit of the Boss CE-1 and CE-221. Premier Guitar's reviewer put the lineage plainly: "Mythos makes no secret of the ways the Fates' design is rooted in the Boss CE-2"3.
Where the old Boss boxes were chorus only, The Fates adds a vibrato mode and a wider depth range, and it wraps all of that in a chunky enclosure finished in blue Hammerite paint with Ampeg Daka Ware-style chicken head knobs3. It launched in September 2023 at $2294.
An analog chorus and vibrato in the CE-2 tradition
The Fates is an all-analog chorus. The modulation comes from an MN3207 bucket brigade delay chip, the same type of device that gave the classic 80's Japanese chorus pedals their character21. Mythos Pedals describes the project in its own words:
"We wanted to put our spin on that iconic sound and create an homage that lived up to the Mythos standard."
RockBoard's PedalPedia says both the Chorus and Vibrato modes run the gamut from swirly shimmer to rotary speaker-like vibes2. Premier Guitar's demo video describes it as "a MN3207 chip-driven chorus and vibrato that moves in rich, rippling waves"1.
The two additions over the CE-2 formula are increased depth range and a vibrato mode. Premier Guitar's reviewer, a self-described Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man devotee, welcomed both3. Guitar.com's Jason Mays found the vibrato side more nuanced and dialled back than typical CE-2-style pedals, closer in character to a big box 80s Deluxe Memory Man6.
The controls
The front panel is deliberately simple: two knobs and a mode toggle.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Rate | Controls the speed of the effect, the speed of the LFO64 |
| Depth | Controls the amount of chorus or vibrato, how wide and pronounced the modulation is64 |
| Toggle switch | Selects chorus or vibrato6 |
RockBoard's PedalPedia says the Rate and Depth controls are finely tuned to give the most musical range of sounds2. For a starting point, Guitar.com's best-pedals guide suggests The Fates is at its best with the rate knob at noon and the depth set slightly higher, which it says brings out a beautiful responsiveness7.
The vibrato mode
Vibrato mode turns off the clean mix portion of the chorus, so only the modulated signal reaches the output21. That is the classic way to derive vibrato from a chorus circuit, and on many CE-2-style pedals it comes with a catch: at high depth settings the effect warbles wildly.
Mythos addressed that. The company says the vibrato side has been finely tuned to shift select components so it does not have that extreme warble from the depth pot21. MusicRadar's Jonathan Horsley made the same point at launch: in vibrato, it takes out the clean signal, but Mythos has tweaked the vibrato setting so you will not get to extreme warble on the Depth control4.
The circuit it is based on
The design is rooted in the Boss CE-2, in the spirit of the CE-1 and CE-213. The signal path uses the MN3207 BBD chip for the modulation, and the input and bypass stage is built around a JFET buffer. Guitar.com's review describes this as "adding a JFET buffered bypass/input stage that utilises the infamous MN3207 chip"6. Mythos says the JFET buffered bypass and input stage helps keep the noise down and also helps push the signal1.
The Fates features a JFET buffered bypass/input stage, which helps keep the noise down and also helps push the signal. For players comparing the two approaches, the buffer pedals page covers what a buffer does in a signal chain1.
Power
The Fates runs on 9V DC from a pedalboard power supply4. RockBoard's PedalPedia lists its current draw at 16mA2, while MusicRadar's 2023 launch report gave 19mA4. Either way, it is a light load that any common isolated supply can handle.
What reviewers said
The Fates reviewed well across the press.
- Guitar.com (Jason Mays, January 2024): rated it 9 out of 106.
- Guitar.com's best modulation pedals guide (Richard Purvis, January 2026): listed it at a price of $2295.
Premier Guitar's reviewer closed on a strong note about how complete the pedal is:
"But I bet you'll never need another analog chorus"
Guitar.com's best modulation pedals guide summed up the Mythos The Fates as "a very fun time"5.

Questions
What is the Mythos The Fates based on?
The Fates is rooted in the Boss CE-2, and Mythos describes it as an homage to classic 80's Japanese chorus units in the spirit of the CE-1 and CE-2. It uses the MN3207 bucket brigade chip, the same BBD family those pedals were built around. Mythos added two features over the original design: increased depth range and a vibrato mode.
Is Mythos The Fates analog?
Yes. The Fates is an analog BBD chorus and vibrato pedal built around the MN3207 bucket brigade chip. Mythos Pedals describes it as a BBD analog chorus, and Premier Guitar's demo calls it a MN3207 chip-driven chorus and vibrato that moves in rich, rippling waves. There is no digital processing in the modulation path.
How much current does The Fates draw?
The maker's product page lists a current draw of 16mA. An earlier MusicRadar news piece from September 2023 gave 19mA, so the figures differ between sources. It runs on 9V DC from a pedalboard power supply, so it draws little enough to sit easily on most boards.
Does The Fates have a vibrato mode?
Yes. A toggle switch selects chorus or vibrato. Vibrato mode turns off the clean mix portion of the chorus, leaving only the modulated signal. Mythos tuned the vibrato side by shifting select components so the Depth control does not produce the extreme warble typical of CE-2-style vibrato settings.
Is The Fates true bypass?
No. The Fates uses a JFET buffered bypass and input stage rather than true bypass. Mythos says this stage keeps noise down and helps push the signal. Players who want to compare bypass approaches can read more on the buffer pedals page.
How much does Mythos The Fates cost?
The Fates launched at $229 in September 2023, and a Guitar.com review from October 2024 still lists it at $229. UK pricing differs between sources: MusicRadar gave £184 at launch, while Guitar.com gave £229 in 2024. It was available now as of the September 2023 launch report.
