The NativeAudio In the Water is a reverb, delay and drone pedal built around reflections. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio calls it "a reverb, a delay, a drone engine, and a meditation on chasing reflections"1. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson describes the same pedal, under its full name In The Water Wave Reflector, as a multi-octave reverse delay, wave generator and drone device, and calls it his favorite of Native Audio's three pedals: "The new In The Water may be my favourite of all - a quite superb aqueous wave reflector"2.

The Reflections engine

The heart of the pedal is what Delicious Audio describes as the Reflections engine: "reversed, refracted echoes that bloom octaves above and below your signal"1. In practice that means the delay side works backwards, throwing out reversed echoes that spread into octave content above and below what you play, closer to a reverb than a straight repeat. Alongside it sits a wave generator and drone side for sustained tones2.

De Gregorio frames the whole pedal as a listening exercise: "It's a pedal about what happens when you stop diving and start listening"1.

Stereo field

The In the Water runs stereo in and out, and true stereo if you want it1. Delicious Audio describes the effect of that routing on the reflections: "Every reflection lands in a different place in the stereo field, so the whole thing moves around you instead of stacking"1. For a player, that is the difference between a wash sitting behind the amp and one that spreads across the stage.

Controls

Guitar Pedal X lists the pedal in two sides, Reflections and Wave Gen, with a Dry>Wet Mix on the Reflections side and Waveform Resonance and Waveform Level on the Wave Gen side2. Delicious Audio adds a Ripples control: "Ripples controls how much the surface moves, from a single shimmer to near-oscillation"1.

ControlSideWhat it does
Dry>Wet MixReflectionsBlends dry and effected signal2
RipplesReflectionsSets how much the surface moves, from a single shimmer to near-oscillation1
Waveform ResonanceWave GenShapes the drone's resonance2
Waveform LevelWave GenSets the drone's level2

Expression and MIDI

Any parameter on the pedal can be controlled by an expression pedal or over MIDI, according to Delicious Audio1. That makes the In the Water usable with MIDI switching and expression setups, sweeping the reflections or the drone hands-free.

Price and availability

Delicious Audio reported the In the Water available now from nativeaudio.com at $272 USD as of September 20261. Guitar Pedal X, writing in July 2026, gave the price as $299 on the Native Audio store2. The two figures differ; the newer one is lower.

Guitar Pedal X notes there is no active dealer in the UK, and that Break the Machine is still a sort of dealer but has not ordered the new pedals2.

Questions

Who designed the NativeAudio In the Water?

Mike Trombley built the In the Water for NativeAudio, the maker behind the pedal. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio describes it as a reverb, a delay, a drone engine, and a meditation on chasing reflections, built around the pedal's core Reflections engine of reversed, refracted echoes.

Is the NativeAudio In the Water a true stereo pedal?

Yes. Delicious Audio reports that the In the Water runs stereo in and out, true stereo if you want it, and that every reflection lands in a different place in the stereo field, so the sound moves around the player instead of stacking up in one spot.

Can the NativeAudio In the Water be controlled by MIDI?

Yes. Delicious Audio states that any parameter on the pedal can be controlled by an expression pedal or over MIDI, which makes it possible to sweep the Reflections engine or the drone side hands-free during a performance.

How much is the NativeAudio In the Water?

Delicious Audio listed the In the Water at $272 USD as of September 2026. Guitar Pedal X, writing in July 2026, gave a price of $299 on the Native Audio store, so the two publications disagree; the newer figure is the lower one.
