The Olinthus Cicada Tiny Classic Overdrive is a compact overdrive from Olinthus, a Tube Screamer-style circuit that Guitar Pedal X described as the world's smallest fully functional pedal. It carries a list price of $99 as of December 20241.
What it does
The Cicada follows the familiar Screamer layout: a Level control for output volume, a Drive control for the amount of overdrive, and a Tone control for treble shaping1. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson placed it in the company's 2024 roundup of boost and overdrive pedals, where he summed up his view of the sound this way:
"It's an OK sounding Screamer - not really up with the best of mine, but non too shabby either."
Size and construction
The pedal's defining feature is its size. Guitar Pedal X called it "the world's smallest fully functional pedal," but noted that its open-sides construction means it is not up to the rigours of live playback or touring1. For a player, that frames the Cicada as part novelty and part engineering marvel: Karlsson described it as fun to own but not a work horse stompbox overall1.
