The Wet Hot American Bummer is a multi-voice delay pedal from Oneder Effects, combining delay with modulation, reverb and a few extra tricks. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio, previewing it in November 2024, described it as "a multi-voice delay with modulation, reverb, and some other cool tricks up its sleeve"1. It sits in the territory of tape-style delay pedals: Oneder Effects says it can do everything from crystal clear digital delay to a verbed-out, modulated, noisy and seasick tape-like sound, aimed at shoegaze and lo-fi players2.
The pedal is now sold by Oneder Effects as the Wet Hot Modulated Echoverb. The maker describes it as "New art. New-ish name. Same great circuit!", meaning the earlier Wet Hot American Bummer and the current pedal share the same circuit with new artwork and a new name2.
Controls
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Time | Sets the delay time, up to 1 second of delay2 |
| Repeats | Sets the number of repeats21 |
| Mix | Sets the mix between wet and dry signal1 |
| Mod | Reverb, chorus and modulated reverb, depending on position (see below)2 |
| Wow | Adds wow and flutter, emulating tape wear or uneven playback speed21 |
| Voice toggle (D T LF) | Digital mode (crisp, clear, balanced repeats), Tape mode (full, fat, colorful repeats), LoFi mode (thinner, slowly degrading repeats)2 |
| Subdivision toggle | Quarter note, eighth note, or eighth note triplet21 |
| Noise toggle | On or off; introduces white noise to the signal21 |
Mod knob: reverb, chorus and both
The Mod knob is the pedal's modulation and reverb section, and its position changes what it does2:
- All the way down: off
- First third of the rotation: reverb, adding longer and more lush reverb up to about 10:00
- From 10:00 to 2:00: chorus, with increasing intensity
- From 2:00 onward: a modulated reverb mode blending chorus and reverb, getting longer and more intense as it is cranked
With the Repeats knob all the way down, the pedal can be used as a reverb or chorus pedal, or both at once2. That puts it in reach of players who would otherwise reach for separate reverb and chorus pedals.
Wow, flutter and noise
The Wow knob introduces wow and flutter, the terms for the pitch irregularities of tape machines: wow is a wide, sweeping, consistent change in pitch, while flutter takes the form of quicker blips and glitches. Oneder Effects notes it only affects the sound if there is delay or reverb present2. Delicious Audio described it as "adding a random wobbly modulation simulating the wow and flutter of old tape recording machines"1.
The Noise toggle introduces white noise to the signal. The Wow knob acts as the noise's volume in tandem with the Wow/Flutter control, and the Mix knob fine-tunes the amount of noise. Oneder Effects says it is intended to add to the lo-fi or vintage vibe, simulating tape degradation or a poor noise floor on a home recording2. Delicious Audio called it a switch that "adds some oh-so-nostalgic hiss to the signal for extra character"1.
Tap tempo and the timeloop
The footswitch is a tap tempo switch: tap it at least twice to set the desired delay tempo21. Holding it down does something else entirely. Oneder Effects explains: "If you hold down the tap tempo footswitch, you'll enter an infinite repeat timeloop that is fun for dramatic holds and f[eedback]". The loop is released when you let go of the switch2.

Questions
Is the Oneder Effects Wet Hot American Bummer on sale yet?
When Delicious Audio previewed the pedal in November 2024, it was not yet on sale and did not have a web page of its own. The site reported it should soon be available on Reverb.com. Since then, Oneder Effects has listed the same circuit on its own product page under a new name, the Wet Hot Modulated Echoverb, with new artwork.
Does the Wet Hot American Bummer have tap tempo?
Yes. The pedal has a tap tempo footswitch: tap it at least twice to set the delay tempo. Holding the same footswitch down enters an infinite repeat loop that Oneder Effects describes as a timeloop, useful for dramatic holds and making noise, and the loop releases when you let go of the switch.
What delay voices does the Wet Hot American Bummer have?
A three-way Voice toggle delivers Digital, Tape and LoFi voices. Oneder Effects describes Digital mode as crisp, clear and balanced, Tape mode as full, fat and colorful, and LoFi mode as thinner repeats that slowly degrade.
What does the Subdivision toggle do on the Wet Hot American Bummer?
It is a three-way toggle that changes the subdivision of the repeats relative to the tap tempo, giving quarter note, eighth note and eighth note triplet options.
What does the Wow knob do?
The Wow knob adds wow and flutter to the signal, emulating the inconsistencies of tape wear or the uneven speed of a playback device. Wow is a wide, sweeping, consistent change in pitch, while flutter takes the form of quicker blips and glitches. It only affects the sound when delay or reverb is present.
Does the Wet Hot American Bummer have reverb and chorus?
Yes. The Mod knob covers reverb, chorus and a blend of the two: the first third of its rotation adds longer, more lush reverb, from about 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock it is chorus with increasing intensity, and past 2 o'clock it enters a modulated reverb mode blending the two. With the Repeats knob all the way down, the pedal can be used as a reverb or chorus pedal, or both.
