The Origin Effects Deluxe55 Tweed Recreation is a compact preamp pedal that replicates the tone of a vintage Fender Tweed Deluxe, specifically the 5E3 circuit Tweed Deluxe from 195512. Rather than modeling the amp in software, it uses an all-analog circuit to simulate what makes a Tweed Deluxe behave the way it does: 6V6 power amp overdrive, valve rectifier sag, ragged phase inverter distortion, and the warm, gritty preamp23. Origin Effects describes it as covering everything the original little combo did, from deep, warm cleans and rich edge-of-breakup to raucous, characterful driven tones4.
A Tweed Deluxe 5E3 in a pedal
The 5E3 Tweed Deluxe is the specific amp the Deluxe55 recreates. MusicRadar reported that Origin Effects says the pedal's push-pull output stage overdrives in "exactly the same way" as the 6V6-driven power amp in the original design1. That is the heart of what the pedal does: instead of a generic overdrive, it reproduces the whole signal path behavior of the amp, including the sag you get from a valve rectifier and the distortion character of the phase inverter23.
Origin Effects positions the pedal across the amp's full range. In its own words, the DELUXE55 "covers everything great about this little combo: raucous and characterful driven tones, rich edge-of-breakup, and deep, warm cleans"4. Reviewers have backed up the basic claim. In a Guitar World review, Alex Lynham wrote:
"Origin Effects don't produce a dedicated black panel amp recreation for guitarists, but this nails the tweed sound."6
For players who want the Tweed Deluxe character at any volume, or without owning a vintage combo, the pedal is the pitch: the same circuit behavior in a box that sits on a pedalboard12.
The controls
The control set is small and amp-like. Sound On Sound's Dave Lockwood found the Drive control "sensibly calibrated to give you some useful operating range," meaning you are not stuck between too clean and too dirty with a fraction of a turn7. Level controls overall output1.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Drive | Sets the amount of amp overdrive; sensibly calibrated for a useful range7 |
| Level | Controls overall output1 |
| Post EQ | Shapes the pedal's voicing, working with an adjacent three-position switch to optimize it for different scenarios7 |
| Preamp switch | Toggles between the stock 12AY7 preamp valve and a 12AX71 |
The Preamp switch is the most characterful control. The original 5E3 shipped with a 12AY7 in the first gain stage, and many owners of the real amps swapped in a hotter 12AX7 for a little more warmth and gain1. The switch replicates that substitution as a switched option. Richard Purvis, reviewing the pedal, described it as "a switch that replicates the effect of using a hotter 12AX7 valve in the first gain stage instead of the standard 12AY7"8. Sound On Sound found the 12AX7 mode "makes the amp louder and dirtier"7. Pushed to full drive in 12AX7 mode, MusicRadar reported the pedal produces "unruly quasi-fuzz tones" at full bore1, which is very much in the spirit of a dimed Tweed Deluxe.
Where the circuit comes from
The Deluxe55 does not copy the Tweed Deluxe with tubes. It deploys Origin Effects' transistor-based amp-replicating circuitry, developed for the company's high-end RevivalDRIVE series of overdrive pedals, and adapted here for the 5E31. John Dines of Origin Effects told MusicRadar:
"We've redesigned our Amp Recreation circuitry for even more realism"1
The company frames the result in practical terms. In a tech article on using Amp Recreation pedals, Origin Effects' Jacob Holdsworth explains that playing the DELUXE55 is "like having a Tweed Deluxe connected to a reactive load"9. In other words, the pedal is designed to respond like the whole amp, power section included, not just its front end.
The Deluxe55 sits in Origin Effects' 2026 Amp Recreation line up alongside the RevivalDRIVE Compact, RD Compact Hot Rod, DELUXE61 and MAGMA574.
Going straight to a mixer or into an amp
Both routes work. The Post EQ control works with its adjacent three-position switch so the pedal's voicing can be optimized for different scenarios7, which is what lets one box sit comfortably in front of a conventional guitar amp or feed a mixer or recording interface directly. Origin Effects' tech article covers exactly this kind of rig building, including signal chain placement and combining multiple Amp Recreation pedals9.
The Deluxe55 has no battery option and runs on a mains adaptor only, which is not included. It draws 100mA at 9V DC through a 2.1 mm center-negative jack21, so a power supply with at least that much current available on its 9V output is needed.

Questions
What amp is the Origin Effects Deluxe55 based on?
The Fender 5E3 circuit Tweed Deluxe from 1955. Origin Effects calls the pedal an all-analog tribute to that amp, simulating its 6V6 power amp overdrive, valve rectifier sag, ragged phase inverter distortion, and preamp21.
Is the Deluxe55 analog or digital?
Fully analog. MusicRadar reported an all-analog circuit at launch1, and Delicious Audio describes it as 100% analog3. The amp replication is done with transistor-based circuitry from the RevivalDRIVE series, not digital modeling1.
What does the 12AY7 and 12AX7 switch do?
It replicates a common modification to the original amps. The 5E3 shipped with a 12AY7 in the first gain stage; many players swapped in a hotter 12AX7 for more warmth and gain1. The switch makes the pedal louder and dirtier in 12AX7 mode7, reaching unruly quasi-fuzz tones at full drive1.
How much does the Origin Effects Deluxe55 cost?
At launch in November 2024 it was priced at $339 in the US and £279 in the UK1. Sound On Sound later gave the UK price as £279 including VAT7, and a Guitar World listing gives $3595. The maker's own page quotes £232.50 ex VAT2.
Can the Deluxe55 go straight to a mixer or into an amp?
Yes. The Post EQ control and its three-position switch let the pedal's voicing be optimized for different scenarios7, so it can feed a mixer or interface directly or sit in front of a conventional amp.
Does the Deluxe55 need a 9V power supply?
Yes. It takes 9V DC from a pedalboard power supply through a 2.1 mm center-negative jack, drawing 100mA21. There is no battery option and the adaptor is not included2.
What does the 12AY7 and 12AX7 switch do on the Deluxe55?
The original 5E3 shipped with a 12AY7 in the first gain stage, and many owners swapped in a hotter 12AX7 for more warmth and gain. The Preamp switch replicates that substitution as a switched option, making the pedal louder and dirtier, with unruly quasi-fuzz tones at full drive.
