The Pedal Pawn Octone is an analog octave fuzz pedal: a fuzz that generates an octave-up note on top of the notes you play, in the style of the vintage Octavia. Pedal Pawn built it around what the company calls "a very rare vintage 1970's Octavia" that it deemed "the gold standard", replicating that circuit complete with its transformer, using NOS germanium diodes12. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio describes it as a variant of the vintage 1970s Octavia Fuzz3.
What it does to your sound
An octave fuzz sits in the octave and pitch family but with a raw, vintage character: the fuzz circuit and the octave-up signal run together, so lead lines come out with a biting, upper-octave edge. Pedal Pawn describes the original Octavia's character as "the SPOOKY magic" of "that FAT circuit", and says that after faithfully recreating it, the company "souped up the parameters" so the pedal can also do ultra clean octave settings1. The maker also advertises an "Immensely CLEAN & CLEAR octave"1.
The pedal keeps things simple with two controls, Level and Boost2. Guitar World's Jonathan Horsley described how they work together: "Diming the Boost yields some helter-skelter tones from the Octone, but backing it off can give you an all-but-clean" octave effect2. That makes the Boost the control that decides how far the pedal sits between a nearly clean octave-up voice and full chaotic fuzz.
Power, bypass and practicalities
The Octone runs on a standard 9V power input1 and draws 50mA4. It uses true bypass switching, so it is out of the signal chain entirely when off1.
Pedal Pawn lists dispatch at up to 4 to 6 weeks from the order date due to very high demand1. UK customers have VAT included, while orders outside the UK may incur local import duties or taxes1.
On buying terms, Pedal Pawn offers free worldwide shipping on all pedals, a 30-day returns policy, and lists the Octone at £197.00 GBP1. When Guitar World covered the pedal in August 2022, shipping worldwide was a flat rate of £15, which the writer put at around $259 all in2.
What reviewers said
On Pedal Pawn's own product page, the Octone shows a score of 92.3 based on 69 reviews, with 94% positive (65) and 6% (4) not positive1.
From the press:
- gearnews.com's Jef, writing in August 2022, said: "Overall, I'm liking what I hear and the pedal looks pretty bomb-proof as well, which is another bonus compared to vintage" units5.
- The same review suggested the pedal suits lead work: "Many vintage octave fuzz pedals suffer on higher registers and so this could be the answer for your vintage-inspired fuzz" solos5.
- Delicious Audio added the Octone to its article on the best Octavia clones and variants, calling it the latest offering by Pedal Pawn as of January 20233.

Questions
Is the Pedal Pawn Octone analog?
Yes. RockBoard's PedalPedia entry lists the Octone's circuit type as analog. It is a hand-built octave fuzz that replicates a vintage 1970s Octavia circuit, complete with transformer and NOS germanium diodes, rather than a digital octave or pitch-shift design.
Is the Octone true bypass?
Yes. Pedal Pawn lists the Octone with true bypass switching on its product page, so the pedal is removed from the signal path entirely when switched off.
Where is the Pedal Pawn Octone made?
The Octone is handcrafted in the UK. Pedal Pawn states this on its product page, and Delicious Audio's write-up of the pedal also notes it is handcrafted in the UK.
How much power does the Octone need?
The Octone takes a standard 9V power input, and RockBoard's PedalPedia lists its current draw at 50mA. Pedal Pawn does not list a battery option, so plan on a 9V DC pedalboard supply.
Can the Octone produce a clean octave?
Pedal Pawn says the circuit was souped up to also fulfil ultra clean octave settings, and Guitar World's Jonathan Horsley found that diming the Boost yields helter-skelter tones while backing it off can give an all-but-clean octave effect.
