The PIRATE MIDI Polar Plus is a compact MIDI control pedal built around one job: powering and controlling the ToneX One. PIRATE MIDI describes it as a MIDI CONTROL device, and the maker's pitch is simple: "Just connect your ToneX One to this small, powerful box using USB-C, and you're ready to go. It powers the pedal an..."1 In other words, one USB-C cable between the two boxes handles both power and MIDI, with no complicated setup in between. It belongs to the wider family of MIDI pedals used to control amp modelers, switchers and other MIDI-equipped gear.
Power and hooking it up
The Polar Plus runs on a 9V DC, center negative supply and draws 300mA1. That current draw is worth noting on a pedalboard: it is well beyond what most pedal power supplies deliver on a single output, so it needs its own dedicated outlet rather than a shared or daisy-chained one. Once powered, the USB-C connection to the ToneX One carries both power and MIDI, so the pedal itself is powered through the Polar Plus rather than needing its own supply1.
With a 300mA current draw1, the Polar Plus should not be powered from a daisy chain or a low-current outlet shared with other pedals.
Where it sits in PIRATE MIDI's range
PIRATE MIDI makes a line of small MIDI and utility pedals, including the Aero, Scribble, BRIDGE4, BRIDGE6, Polar, CLiCK v2, Nexus, Exp Mate and uloop. The Polar Plus is the version of the Polar line aimed squarely at ToneX One owners, while the Polar is the base model. Version 2 Polar hardware, released in January 2026, is more space efficient and adds optical switching technology to models with footswitches.
