Skreddy describes it as a versatile overdrive with a British amp sound, voiced, in the maker's words, like "a huge early 70's British tube amplifier"¹. It is built to order and currently listed as a preorder at $205 plus shipping, with a wait time of approximately 2 weeks to 1 month¹.

What sets it apart inside the Skreddy range is its circuit: it shares its fuzz stage with the Skreddy Hybrid Fuzz Driver, a pedal that covers boost, overdrive and light fuzz in one box¹.

What the Hybrid Overdrive does

Skreddy positions the Hybrid Overdrive as a do-everything drive pedal rather than a one-trick boost. The maker says it "has a good range for just 3 controls," and that it "cleans up extremely well with the guitar volume," so you can ride your guitar's volume knob to move between clean, touch-sensitive overdrive and fuller drive without touching the pedal itself¹.

The sound Skreddy goes for is an authentic rock voice like a huge early 70's British tube amplifier, and it cleans up extremely well with the guitar volume. The maker's own description of the voice¹:

That cleanup behavior matters for how you use it: with the guitar volume rolled back the pedal stays articulate, and turning up adds gain and sustain, the way a cranked amp responds to the instrument¹.

A fuzz stage shared with the Hybrid Fuzz Driver

The Hybrid Overdrive's closest relative in the Skreddy lineup is the Hybrid Fuzz Driver. According to Skreddy, the Hybrid Overdrive "sounds nearly identical to the Hybrid Fuzz Driver," because it uses the same oldschool silicon-germanium fuzz stage¹. The Fuzz Driver is described by the maker as an amp-like, articulate boost, overdrive and light fuzz pedal, aggressive but not too fuzzy in high-gain mode and an articulate boost in low-gain mode³.

A few things the maker says about the Fuzz Driver's design carry over as context for the shared circuit:

• Its impedance-matching input stage works behind wah pedals without squeal or tone suck, and tolerates buffers in front, so it can go anywhere in the signal chain³.
• It has a treble-boosted flavor, distorting with a creamy voice while retaining the guitar's essential character³.

Power: 9V DC, 2mA

The Hybrid Overdrive runs on the industry-standard 9V DC plug with a 5.5mm barrel x 2.1mm center coax connector, negative tip. Skreddy describes it as regular 9V negative ground with no special power requirements, so it works with common pedalboard supplies and can share a daisy chain with other negative-ground pedals¹.

Its current draw is just 2mA², among the lowest you will find on a drive pedal, which leaves plenty of headroom on a isolated or shared supply.

The Animals Pedal Diamond Peak connection

The name "Hybrid Overdrive" also appears on a different pedal: the Animals Pedal Diamond Peak Hybrid Over Drive. That pedal is a collaboration between Animals Pedal and Skreddy Pedals, designed by Marc Ahlfs, and launched in early 2021⁵⁶. Despite the shared "Hybrid Overdrive" name, it is not the same circuit.
