The Source Audio Lunar Phaser is a stereo phaser pedal, one of three One Series modulation pedals Source Audio released in August 2015 alongside the Gemini Chorus and Mercury Flanger1. It offers three phaser types on a toggle switch, a Shape knob that changes the character of the modulation, six preset slots, and the option to download any of Source Audio's phaser, flanger, and chorus algorithms via the Neuro app at no additional cost2. As of October 2026 the maker's page lists it as sold out, at a sale price of $199.002.
The controls
The Lunar keeps its top row simple: Speed and Depth, plus a Resonance knob for dialing in a more metallic sound, according to MusicRadar's reviewer Trevor Curwen3. The fourth knob is the Shape control, which affects the LFO and morphs the modulation wave from a smooth sine wave into a harder-edged, choppy and aggressive square wave3. Premier Guitar's press coverage at launch described the same set: Depth, Speed, Resonance, and Shape1.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Speed | Modulation rate3 |
| Depth | Modulation depth3 |
| Resonance | Dials in a more metallic sound3 |
| Shape | Morphs the LFO from sine wave to square wave3 |
| Center toggle | Selects one of the three phaser effects2 |
The three modes
The center toggle selects three phaser effects: CLASSIC (4-Stage), VIBE (Uni-Vibe), or MULTI (cascading 8-stage)2.
- Classic is a simple four-stage phaser in the mold of the MXR Phase 90. MusicRadar's reviewer found it "can emulate" the Phase 90 "when dialled in correctly," and that it "goes beyond what the single knob on a 90 could conjure up, particularly with the Resonance knob emphasising the 'wow' of the sweep"3.
- Vibe is modeled after a Uni-Vibe and, in Curwen's words, "reproduces throb and warble well"; with an expression pedal it gives the foot-controlled speed variations of the original3.
- Multi delivers an eight-stage phaser that is more complex, which Curwen called "a great freak-out tool for end-of-set knob manipulators, especially after distortion"3.
"Several shades of phasing nicely covered, with many more sounds waiting in the wings."
Presets, MIDI and stereo
The center toggle's six slots are arranged as two banks of three. Bank 1 (green) works like a standard pedal, with sound reflecting the current knob positions, while Bank 2 (red) provides three preset slots with fixed settings2. The pedal also has full MIDI capability with PC and CC messages, which Source Audio says becomes simple when coupled with the Neuro Hub2. Stereo input and output allow deep and wide stereo modulation, or one of the Lunar's Signal Routing options2.
Bypass and Neuro
The Lunar uses what Source Audio calls Universal Bypass: you select between high-quality signal relays for true bypass and transparent buffers for analog bypass2. Through the Neuro app you can download any of Source Audio's phaser, flanger, and chorus algorithms directly to the pedal at no additional cost, which extends it well beyond the three phaser types on the toggle2. Questions
What are the three modes on the Source Audio Lunar Phaser?
The center toggle selects three phaser effects: CLASSIC, a four-stage phaser; VIBE, a Uni-Vibe style effect; and MULTI, a cascading eight-stage phaser. MusicRadar's reviewer found Classic could emulate an MXR Phase 90 when dialed in, Vibe reproduced the throb and warble of a Uni-Vibe well, and Multi was a more complex eight-stage effect suited to more extreme playing.
Does the Lunar Phaser have true bypass?
Yes, but it is selectable. The pedal uses what Source Audio calls Universal Bypass: you can choose between high-quality signal relays for true bypass and transparent buffers for analog bypass, so it can suit either a short pedalboard chain or a long one.
Does the Lunar Phaser work in stereo?
Yes. The Lunar Phaser has stereo input and output, which Source Audio says can be used to create deep and wide stereo modulation or to engage one of the pedal's Signal Routing options.
How many presets does the Lunar Phaser hold?
Up to six effect presets, arranged as two banks of three on the center toggle. Bank 1 (green) works like a standard pedal and reflects the current knob positions, while Bank 2 (red) provides three preset slots with fixed settings.
Does the Lunar Phaser support MIDI?
Yes. Source Audio says the pedal features full MIDI capability with PC and CC messages, and that it becomes simple to use when coupled with the Neuro Hub.
