The ThorpyFX Deep Oggin is a fully analog chorus/vibrato pedal, made in the UK and designed as a collaboration with Dan Coggins, the former Lovetone pedal designer123. ThorpyFX voices it "to provide a variety of chorus styles from deep and wet through to more subtle and shimmery sounds"2. It was announced at NAMM in January 2019 and shipped from March that year14.
The current version, the Deep Oggin MKII, keeps the same five-knob layout and wet/dry outputs as the original, in a laser-cut and laser-etched anodised aluminum enclosure finished in violet pearl white with a Japanese waves design5.
The controls: Depth, Rate, Blend, Volume and Treble
ThorpyFX keeps the control set to five knobs, which the maker describes as "functionally simple"5. MusicRadar's reviewer Trevor Curwen called it "a fully analogue chorus/vibrato pedal with plenty of parameters to adjust without being overcomplicated"7.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Depth | How deep the modulation goes, as on any chorus or vibrato pedal7 |
| Rate | Speed of the modulation7 |
| Blend | Runs from fully dry to fully wet; MusicRadar calls it "key to dialling in the effect"7 |
| Volume | Output level; starts close to unity gain, with travel left for a boost when the effect is engaged7 |
| Treble | Sets the warmth/brightness theme of the tone7 |
The Blend knob is also how you get vibrato from the pedal. As Curwen explains, "vibrato in its purest form is modulated signal with no dry sound present as found with the Blend knob turned up full"7. Around a 50/50 wet/dry setting he found "classic vintage chorus tones... right through to subtle shadings just audible behind the dry sound"7.
Wet and dry outputs for stereo or two amps
The Deep Oggin has an input plus two outputs, wet and dry53. ThorpyFX's page puts it plainly: "For stereo pedal enthusiasts, they will be pleased to know that the DEEP OGGIN has both dry and wet outputs"5.
For a player, that means two options beyond the usual mono setup:
- Send the wet (modulated) signal to one amp and the dry signal to another for a wet/dry twin-amp rig73.
- Use both outputs for stereo use5.
Curwen notes that with the two outputs "you can send the wet and dry signals to separate amps" if you want to move beyond the standard pedalboard mono in/mono out scenario7.
Designed with Dan Coggins, formerly of Lovetone
The Deep Oggin was designed as a collaboration between ThorpyFX and Dan Coggins, formerly of Lovetone, and it was "his first modulation pedal design since his Lovetone days"54. Guitar.com's chorus buying guide notes that ThorpyFX is the brainchild of Adrian Thorpe MBE, and that the Deep Oggin is one of the company's collaborations with Coggins, formerly of Lovetone and Dinosaural8.
The pedal was announced at NAMM 2019 in January, with an RRP of £249.99 and availability from March4. Guitar World reported pre-orders open with shipping beginning March 11. Delicious Audio notes that Thorpy and Coggins decided to go fully analog deliberately, in a market full of digital choruses, to deliver a vintage character6.
The original pedal was built in a laser-cut and laser-etched stainless steel enclosure wrapped in an ocean blue powder coat1, with an armoured steel chassis carrying five mini chicken-head knobs3. The MKII moves to the anodised aluminum violet pearl white enclosure with the Japanese waves design, and the build is engineered with recessed knobs, a sloped front and top mounted jacks5.
What reviewers said
Reviews were consistently positive about the build and the tone.
- A MusicRadar review found it "stylish and well put-together with quality components"7.
- A Guitar.com review listed the price at £249 in June 20193.
- The same site's chorus coverage went further on tone: "The Deep Oggin doesn't come cheap, but it's quite simply one of the finest chorus tones we have ever heard"8.
- Delicious Audio included the pedal in its Best Chorus Pedals list6, and Reverb's Andy selected it as one of his NAMM 2019 pedal picks6.
- Writing at announcement, Gearnews expected "a heavy, touring quality boutique pedal" given Adrian Thorpe's component quality and bomb-proof designs9.
On That Pedal Show's demo, the hosts spent time on the blend control10:
"yeah so then I love this blend control so you got your you blend between the dry signal"

Questions
Is the ThorpyFX Deep Oggin analog?
Yes. ThorpyFX describes it as a fully analog chorus/vibrato designed from the ground up, and reviewers including MusicRadar and Guitar World confirm the all-analog circuit. It was created as a deliberate alternative to the many digital chorus pedals on the market.
How much current does the Deep Oggin draw?
The Deep Oggin draws 50mA, according to ThorpyFX's own product page and RockBoard's PedalPedia listing. It runs on 9V DC with a center negative input, so it works with a standard pedalboard power supply.
Can the Deep Oggin run two amps?
Yes. It has both a wet output and a dry output, so you can send the modulated signal to one amp and the dry signal to another for a wet/dry twin-amp setup, or use both outputs for stereo.
What changed on the Deep Oggin MKII?
The MKII keeps the same five controls, wet and dry outputs, and 50mA current draw. The visible change is the enclosure: the original used a laser-cut stainless steel chassis in ocean blue, while the MKII uses a laser-cut and laser-etched anodised aluminium enclosure in violet pearl white with a Japanese waves design.
Who designed the ThorpyFX Deep Oggin?
It was designed as a collaboration between ThorpyFX founder Adrian Thorpe and Dan Coggins, the former Lovetone pedal designer. It was Coggins' first modulation pedal design since his Lovetone days.
Can the Deep Oggin run wet and dry signals to two amps?
Yes. The pedal has an input plus two outputs, wet and dry. MusicRadar's reviewer notes this lets you step outside the usual mono in, mono out setup, and Guitar.com's review describes the arrangement as allowing twin-amp wet/dry use.
