The Valeton Dapper Mini is a combined effects unit: a single metal strip that packs a tuner, a drive section, a chorus, a delay and a headphone output with cabinet simulation into one box. Valeton lists it under "Combined Effects" and positions it as a self-contained front end for a guitar rig, covering the core effects most players reach for first.1
The signal runs through five modules in order: TUNER, DRIVE, CHORUS, DELAY and PHONES (with cab sim). The drive section has a toggle that selects between two characters, the delay runs up to a full second with a dedicated tap switch, and the headphone output lets you practice silently with speaker simulation.1
What the Dapper Mini does
The Dapper Mini is built for the player who wants the essentials in one footprint. Instead of a pedalboard with separate tuner, overdrive, chorus and delay pedals, the strip puts all four in a single enclosure 197mm wide, about the width of two standard pedals side by side, at 417g.1
Valeton describes the tuner as fast and accurate, and the delay as clean and dynamic, "luscious" enough to beef up riffs and solos. The PHONES output with cab sim means you can plug headphones straight in and hear a speaker-shaped tone while practicing, without an amp.1
The modules and controls
Each module has its own controls and its own ON/OFF switch, so you can run any combination of the effects at once.
| Module | Controls | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| TUNER | module switch | Fast, accurate tuning, first in the chain1 |
| DRIVE | toggle, knobs | Toggle selects between overdrive and distortion1 |
| CHORUS | rate and depth knobs | Adds body to clean tones or extra thickness to drives1 |
| DELAY | knobs, dedicated tap switch | Up to 1000ms of delay, tempo settable by tapping1 |
| PHONES | output with cab sim | Headphone listening with speaker simulation1 |
The DRIVE module is the heart of the unit. Valeton describes the two toggle positions in character terms: "In OD mode, you get a warm, thick overdrive; in DIST mode, you get that classic British high gain sound."1 That gives the strip both a low-gain overdrive voice and a high-gain distortion voice without duplicating the module.
The CHORUS module keeps things simple with two knobs. Valeton's guidance is to "fine tune the onboard rate and depth knobs to beef up your cleans or give some extra body to your drives," so it works as a subtle thickener as well as an obvious chorus effect.1
The DELAY module reaches a maximum of 1000ms and has a dedicated tap switch: "You can set the tempo in with the dedicated tap switch," which means you can sync repeats to the song by foot rather than hunting for the right knob position.1
The Dapper family and what is discontinued
The Dapper Mini is one member of a wider Dapper series of effects strips, each aimed at a different kind of player. Several of them are now discontinued, and Valeton marks them as such on its product pages234.
| Model | Status | Distinguishing feature |
|---|---|---|
| Dapper | Discontinued | FX loop for hooking up other effects4 |
| Dapper Dark | Discontinued | High-gain voicing, FX loop5 |
| Dapper Dark Mini | Discontinued | Analog-voiced delay with tap tempo, high-gain module with noise reduction2 |
| Dapper Looper Mini | Discontinued | Looper strip, 9V DC power supply included3 |
| Dapper Amp Mini | Discontinued | 9 vintage and modern amp sounds, cab sim on/off6 |
| Dapper MDR | Discontinued | Modulation, delay and reverb with switchable effect trail7 |
| Dapper Acoustic Mini | Current | Acoustic preamp with notch filter, compressor, reverb8 |
| Dapper Bass Mini | Current | Bass version, 1500mA current draw9 |
| Dapper Indie | Current | Fuzz wall and echoes with tap tempo10 |
The full-size Dapper and Dapper Dark both offered an FX loop so you could insert your own pedals into the chain, something the Mini format does not carry over. The Dapper Dark Mini was the closest sibling to the Dapper Mini, sharing the tuner, tap-tempo delay and compact format but voiced for high gain, with noise reduction on its high-gain module.25
The wider Dapper family has largely been retired. The original Dapper, the Dapper Dark, the Dapper Dark Mini, the Dapper Looper Mini, the Dapper Amp Mini and the Dapper MDR are all listed as discontinued.1191081213 The Dapper Mini itself remains the current combined effects unit in the line, covering tuner, drive, chorus, delay and a phones output with cab sim in one box.7
Pedal of the Day has followed the series over the years. Reviewing the Dapper Indie in 2021, the site called it "another wonderful addition to their Dapper Series."12 Of the Dapper Looper Mini in 2019, the reviewer wrote that "it will fit on just about any pedalboard you might have, so it is convenient AND an excellent tool to use."13
Most of the original Dapper strips, including the full-size Dapper, Dapper Dark, Dapper Dark Mini, Dapper Looper Mini, Dapper Amp Mini and Dapper MDR, are discontinued. The Dapper Mini, Dapper Acoustic Mini, Dapper Bass Mini and Dapper Indie remain in Valeton's current lineup.
Manuals and documentation
Valeton publishes a Spanish manual for the Dapper Mini, version V03, as a downloadable PDF of about 1.36 MB from its website.14 Other members of the family have their own manuals, including English and French versions for the Dapper Acoustic Mini and an English manual for the Dapper Indie.1110

Questions
Does the Valeton Dapper Mini have a built-in tuner?
Yes. The Dapper Mini has a TUNER module that Valeton describes as fast and accurate tuning. It is the first module in the chain, so you tune before any drive or modulation is applied.
What power supply does the Valeton Dapper Mini need?
It runs on a 9V DC power supply with a center negative plug, the same standard as most modern effects pedals. Valeton lists the power requirement as 9V DC center negative on the product page.
How much current does the Dapper Mini draw?
Valeton lists the current consumption as 110mA. That is modest by multi-effects standards, so it can share an isolated output on a typical pedalboard power supply without trouble.
What is the maximum delay time on the Dapper Mini?
The DELAY module offers a maximum delay time of 1000ms, or one second. Valeton describes the delay as clean and dynamic, suited to beefing up riffs and solos.
Does the Dapper Mini have tap tempo for the delay?
Yes. The DELAY module has a dedicated tap switch, so you can set the tempo by tapping rather than turning a knob. The delay reaches up to 1000ms.
Is there a Spanish manual for the Dapper Mini?
Yes. Valeton publishes a Spanish manual for the Dapper Mini, version V03, as a downloadable PDF. The file is about 1.36 MB and is available from the Valeton website.
