The Valeton GP-200LT is a floorboard multi-effects processor and audio interface from Valeton. It is the LITE version of the GP-200, built on what Valeton describes as the same HD modeling technology and platform, which the maker says delivers "the pure, organic tones" of the larger unit in a slimmer chassis1. Audio conversion is 24-bit at 44.1kHz, and the effects library covers more than 140 guitar, bass and acoustic amp and cabinet simulations1.

The trade-offs against the GP-200 are physical rather than sonic: you lose the built-in expression pedal of the GP-200, though you can plug in your own, and you get fewer footswitches2.

Connections and I/O

The rear panel covers the usual floorboard duties plus recording. Valeton's product page lists the following1:

ConnectionDetail
Instrument input1/4″ TS
Main outputs2 × balanced 1/4″ TRS
Headphone output1/8″, with its own volume knob
Aux inputStereo 1/8″, transfers audio directly to USB
Expression / footswitch2 × 1/4″ TRS EXP/FS jacks
MIDI1/8″ TRS MIDI IN/OUT (THRU)

The two EXP/FS jacks support simultaneous connection of two external expression pedals or up to four external footswitches, which matters given the LT has no built-in expression pedal1. The independent headphone volume knob lets you switch monitoring lines without repeatedly plugging and unplugging cables1. The 1/8″ TRS MIDI jacks allow further control expansion1.

The controls: module buttons, quick access knobs and screen

Editing follows the same approach as the GP-200. On the GP-200, Valeton describes the design in three parts: "The module buttons provide fast on/off to the corresponding effect modules; amp knobs offer straightforward visual presentations; customizable quick access knobs bring plenty of space for every patch's micro-adjustment"3. On the LT, the module buttons handle the effect modules' in and out and on and off, while the quick access knobs bring personalization to every patch1.

The quick access knobs can also be driven over MIDI. Valeton's control-change documentation for the GP-200 platform maps CC# 18 (value 0 to 100) to Quick Access Knob 2 and CC# 20 (value 0 to 100) to Quick Access Knob 3, with CC# 69 and CC# 71 (value 0 to 127) assigned to CTRL 1 and CTRL 34.

Editing is done on a 4.3-inch color LCD screen, which MusicRadar noted "helps to make the editing process clear"2.

What reviewers said

MusicRadar covered the GP-200LT in October 2022, describing it as the slimmer follow-up to the GP-200 and putting it through its paces in a demo video with Andertons presenter "Digital John" Connearn2. The reviewer's verdict on value was positive:

"But this thing is impressive in its own right for its £249 asking price."

That £249 was the UK price at launch.

Firmware and documentation

Valeton publishes an online manual for the GP-200LT covering firmware V1.5.0, in Spanish, as a 9.54 MB PDF on the maker's site5.

Questions

What is the difference between the Valeton GP-200LT and the GP-200?

The GP-200LT is the LITE version of the GP-200. It uses the same HD modeling technology and platform, but you lose the GP-200's built-in expression pedal, though you can plug in your own, and it has fewer footswitches. MusicRadar called it the slimmer follow-up to the GP-200.

How many presets does the GP-200LT have?

It has 256 patch slots in total: 100 factory presets and 156 user slots for your own sounds. Valeton's modeling library covers more than 140 guitar, bass and acoustic amp and cabinet simulations.

Does the GP-200LT work as a USB audio interface?

Yes. Valeton lists it as a multi-effects processor and audio interface, with 24-bit 44.1kHz audio conversion. A stereo 1/8 inch Aux input transfers plugged-in audio signals directly to the USB.

Does the GP-200LT come with a power supply?

Yes, a 9V DC power supply is included in the box, so you do not need to buy one separately.

Can I connect expression pedals to the GP-200LT?

Yes. It has two 1/4 inch TRS EXP/FS jacks that support simultaneous connection of two external expression pedals, or up to four external footswitches.

Does the GP-200LT have MIDI?

Yes. It has 1/8 inch TRS MIDI IN/OUT (THRU) jacks for further control expansion, which Valeton's documentation maps to control changes such as CC# 18, 20, 69 and 71.
