The Vick Audio Mount Pleasant Bluesbreaker Overdrive is an overdrive pedal built around the BluesBreaker circuit, as named in the product's title1. Vick Audio describes it as a take on possibly their most famous pedal, the Blues Breaker2.
What it does
The Mount Pleasant is billed as a low-to-medium gain drive with a Marshall BluesBreaker flavor3. Pedal of the Day's review called it "a wonderful low-to-mid gain effect that crushes rock, blues and more"2. Compared with the Blues Breaker idea itself, Guitar World's Billy Voight wrote that "Vick Audio took the idea of the Blues Breaker and built a pedal with more gain, more output and an optional High Cut control"4.
The High Cut toggle gives the player three voicing options, which is the pedal's main departure from the circuit it is based on. For players comparing low-gain drives, it sits in the same family as other transparent-style overdrives rather than the mid-humped designs covered in Boss SD-1 vs Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer43.
Build and bass use
The pedal features Neutrik jacks and a true bypass footswitch4. Vick Audio's website suggested trying the Mount Pleasant on bass, and Voight took the company up on that challenge, demoing it on bass in his review4. Players looking at drive pedals for bass can find more in Bass Pedals.
Vick Audio also makes other drives, including the Vick Audio Overdriver and the Vick Audio Tree of Life.
