The Vox V863-CA Custom Semi-auto Wah is a wah and auto-wah pedal, listed by Vox at a launch price of $279 USD1. Premier Guitar's editors describe it as a pedal that "can switch from wah to envelope generator or envelope follower merely by lifting your foot from the treadle", so the same pedal covers both manual rocking and automatic filter movement2.
What it does
In its automatic modes, the pedal uses an envelope generator or envelope follower to drive the wah sweep, and the mode changes depending on whether your foot is on the treadle2. That makes it a hybrid: a conventional wah when you work the pedal, and an auto-wah style filter when you do not. For more on the effect type itself, see the Wah-Wah Pedals page.
Controls
The pedal's Attack control adjusts the speed of the wah sweep progression in the automatic modes. MusicRadar's reviewer found it flexible: "Set fast it's an almost immediate progression through the sweep"1.
A sensitivity control governs how easily the envelope follower triggers. MusicRadar described the range as wide: "It's hard to trigger on its lowest setting and triggering pretty much all the time on the highest"1.
What reviewers said
MusicRadar's reviewer came away convinced by the build quality, arguing that a wah has to survive being stood on and that the V863-CA is rock solid with no issues expected1.
