The Julia Onyx Ltd. is a limited-edition version of the Julia from Walrus Audio, an analog chorus and vibrato pedal. Chorus thickens your signal by doubling it with a detuned copy; vibrato goes further and drops the dry signal, leaving only the wobbling pitch. The Julia covers both in one box, and its defining control is a blend knob that lets you dial in how much of each you hear.1

What it does

The Julia's signature feature is its blend control. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes it as offering "a unique blend knob to blend your dry signal with chorus or blend between chorus and vibrato."1 In practice, that means one knob sweeps from a mostly dry signal with a touch of chorus underneath, through full chorus, and on into vibrato, where the dry signal is blended out and only the pitch-modulated signal remains. Players who want a subtle widening under their clean tone can sit the blend low; players who want a seasick vibrato can push it to the far end.

Because the circuit is analog, the pedal sits in the traditional chorus camp rather than the digital modulation world of Walrus Audio's Mako M1 pedals.1

Power

The Julia Onyx Ltd. runs on a 9V DC, center negative supply and draws 30mA.1 That is modest enough for most isolated pedalboard power supplies, though as with any analog modulation pedal, a clean, regulated supply is worth using.

Where it sits in the Walrus Audio range

Walrus Audio makes several chorus and vibrato pedals, and the Julia family is the analog side of the lineup1:

Questions

Is the Walrus Audio Julia Onyx Ltd. analog or digital?

The Julia Onyx Ltd. is an analog chorus and vibrato pedal. Walrus Audio lists its circuit type as analog, which places it alongside the standard Julia rather than the company's digital Mako modulation pedals. It runs on a 9V DC, center negative supply and draws 30mA.

What does the blend knob on the Julia Onyx Ltd. do?

Walrus Audio describes the Julia's blend knob as a way to mix your dry signal with chorus, or to blend between chorus and vibrato. That means one control covers everything from a subtle thickening under your clean tone to a full pitch-wobbling vibrato, without needing to turn the effect off entirely.
