The Walrus Audio Meraki Stereo Analog Dual Delay is a true stereo analog delay pedal with two independent delay channels. Where most analog delays run one or two bucket brigade chips, the Meraki uses eight MN3005 bucket brigade chips, which is what lets it reach 1200ms of delay time in a true stereo, dual-delay design1. Walrus Audio describes it as a way to "immerse yourself in true stereo analog delay" with "warm, rich repeats"1.

The pedal first appeared in late 2023 as a Reverb.com special edition, and Walrus Audio added it to its regular line-up in January 2024, priced at $5992. The current list price is $599.991. It sits in the company's Monarch series alongside the Mantle Analog Bass Preamp // D.I. and the Highpoint Analog Optical Compressor1.

Eight bucket brigade chips in true stereo

Analog delays store the signal in bucket brigade device (BBD) chips, and each chip only holds so much time. Delicious Audio notes that "this kind of circuit requires a lot of BBD chips, 8 in this case"5, and MusicRadar reported that the Meraki "packs eight MN3005 bucket brigade chips into a circuit"6. Those eight MN3005s are what give the pedal its 80ms to 1200ms range while staying fully analog in the delay path1.

The two channels are genuinely independent. Walrus Audio says you can "independently control the delay times and modulation of the left and right channels"1, and a Sync/Left/Right switch lets you either lock the sides together or fine-tune each side separately, with fully independent time, divisions, and mod depth, rate and shapes for mismatched timings1. A Feedback Mode switch selects between Parallel, Ping-Pong, and Series delay lines for different rhythmic textures1.

Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson noted the Meraki's place in the format's history7:

"The Meraki though was the first Dual Analog Full Stereo Pedal, ahead of the Dahlia by a couple of days7."

The Meraki gets its repeats from eight MN3005 bucket brigade chips, the delay line at the heart of its analog circuit164. Walrus Audio says those chips are what give the pedal its warm, rich repeats, the character players associate with bucket brigade delay841.

While the repeats are analog, the control layer is digital. Pedal of the Day describes it as an analog delay where you can "control the digital parameters of this pedal via MIDI"8, and Walrus Audio says you can "digitally manipulate controls like time, modulation, tap tempo, tap division, and more with five-pin MIDI integration"1.

The controls

The Meraki carries six knobs, including separate left and right Feedback controls5, plus two switches and a Tap Tempo footswitch.

ControlWhat it does
TimeSets delay time from 80ms to 1200ms1
MixBlends wet and dry signals, with full wet/dry mix capability1
ToneShapes the character of the repeats5
Mod Depth/RateAdds chorus/vibrato-style modulation to the repeats; secondary functions adjust wave shape and modulation phase1
Feedback Left/RightSets repeat amount per channel, from subtle echoes to full oscillation1
Feedback Mode switchSelects Parallel, Ping-Pong, or Series delay lines1
Sync/Left/Right switchSyncs the channels or sets time, divisions and mod settings independently per side1
Tap Tempo switchSets timing by foot, with external tap and expression pedal options1

The expression input takes a pedal for control over time or modulation depth1, and there is also a connection for external tempo4. MusicRadar's Jonathan Horsley highlighted the same layout: Feedback controls for both stereo channels, plus "switches for feedback mode and for synching the channels"2.

Power and connections

The Meraki runs on 9V DC, center negative, with a 500mA minimum current draw1. Gearnews reported the same requirement when the pedal launched4.

At 500mA minimum, the Meraki draws more current than a typical analog pedal and more than most single-output power supplies deliver. Plan on a dedicated 9V output rated for at least 500mA; a standard 100mA output or a simple daisy chain will not run it.

Connections include MIDI In and MIDI Out7, the expression/external tempo input4, and stereo inputs and outputs for the two channels. Bypass is switchable: a Bypass switch toggles between True-Bypass or Buffered Bypass for trails, and between Trails (the default) or Relay (no-trails) operation1. As MusicRadar put it, "You can run the Meraki as buffered or true bypass"2.

What reviewers said

Pedal of the Day was enthusiastic about the pedal's scope:

"The Meraki Stereo Analog Delay pushes the very boundaries of analog delay sound AND functionality, with more delay time and modern options to keep you re-inventing your sound for decades to come…"8

Pedal of the Day, January 20248

Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson was more measured. He wrote that he "still hugely admire[s] this Meraki and may check it out eventually at some stage," but at the time preferred the Dahlia, noting the Meraki was $100 dearer and slightly bigger, though with significantly longer delay time overall7.

Where it sits in the Walrus Audio line

The Meraki is Walrus Audio's analog stereo delay. Players comparing it against the company's digital delays can look at the Mako Series D1 High-Fidelity Stereo Delay and its MkII update, or the more affordable Fundamental Series Delay. Within the delay family it also sits alongside the ARP-87 Delay and the Bellwether.

Walrus Audio also sells the Meraki as a "Blemish" version at a discount, where the blemish is cosmetic only, such as scratches or dents in the finish of the pedal1.

Questions

Is the Walrus Meraki true bypass or buffered?

Both. A Bypass switch lets you choose True-Bypass or Buffered Bypass for trails, and toggles between Trails (the default) and Relay (no trails) modes. MusicRadar confirms you can run the Meraki as buffered or true bypass, so players who want repeats to fade out naturally after disengaging can have them.

Does the Meraki have MIDI?

Yes. It has five-pin MIDI integration for controlling time, modulation, tap tempo, tap division and more. Guitar Pedal X lists MIDI In and MIDI Out on the pedal, and Delicious Audio notes the MIDI integration alongside tap tempo and the expression input.

What is the maximum delay time on the Walrus Meraki?

1200ms. The Time control ranges from 80ms to 1200ms, and the pedal offers parallel, ping-pong and series delay modes. That is long for an analog bucket brigade delay, which is part of why it needs eight MN3005 chips.

Can I use an expression pedal with the Meraki?

Yes. There is an expression pedal input for dynamic control over time or modulation depth. You can also use an external tap tempo switch instead, and the pedal has its own Tap Tempo footswitch.

Does the Meraki delay have trails?

Yes, trails are the default. The Bypass switch selects between True-Bypass or Buffered Bypass for trails, and toggles between Trails (default) or Relay (no-trails) operation, so you can set it either way.

Is the Walrus Audio Meraki analog or digital?

The delay signal path is analog, built on eight MN3005 bucket brigade chips for true stereo analog repeats. The control layer is digital: parameters such as time, modulation and tap division can be manipulated digitally via MIDI.
