The Wampler Spooky Tumnus Deluxe is a limited-edition, Halloween-themed version of the Tumnus Deluxe overdrive, launched by Wampler Pedals in late 20191. It is an overdrive/boost pedal in the Tumnus family, and Guitar World described the project as a more terrifying take on what the publication called the world's greatest OD/boost circuit1. The pedal lists for $199.971.
What it is and where it came from
The Spooky Tumnus Deluxe is a variant of the Tumnus Deluxe, which itself is the Deluxe version of the original Wampler Tumnus45. Guitar.com reported the launch on 1 November 2019, describing it as a Halloween-themed version of the Tumnus Deluxe overdrive1. Guitar World's news item ran on 31 October 2019, with the pedal available for pre-order at $199.972.
The visual treatment is the whole point of the limited edition: a black-on-black jack-o-lantern and bat design, with the Wampler logo and pedal name in orange1.
This is a limited-edition pedal from 2019, so availability is a matter of the second-hand market rather than current production.
The controls
The Spooky Tumnus Deluxe carries the same control set as the Tumnus Deluxe it is based on1:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Level knob | Sets output level2 |
| Gain knob | Sets the amount of drive2 |
| Active three-band EQ | Tone shaping alongside the level and gain knobs1 |
| Normal / Hot switch | Takes the pedal from standard to higher amounts of drive2 |
| Buffered / true bypass control | Side-mounted switch between the two bypass modes2 |
The bypass control is worth a word. Guitar.com reported that the pedal gives a choice between an articulate-sounding buffer or true-bypass operation1, and Guitar World noted the side-mounted control for switching between the two modes2. On a large pedalboard, a buffer at the front can help preserve your tone through long cable runs, while true bypass suits shorter boards; having both on a switch covers either preference.
Same circuit, different skin
Guitar.com reported that inside the pedal is the same circuitry as the original Tumnus Deluxe1. In practice that means the Spooky version behaves identically to the regular Deluxe: same EQ, same Normal/Hot switch, same bypass options. What you are choosing between is the artwork, not the sound.
The Tumnus family sits in the broader world of Klon-style overdrives. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson, cataloguing his own collection of Klon Klones in September 2025, listed the Tumnus Deluxe among them, dating its release to November 20174. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio has also noted that there is a Tumnus Deluxe version with extra sculpting options beyond the standard Tumnus5.
Questions
Is the Spooky Tumnus Deluxe different from the regular Tumnus Deluxe?
Only in looks. Guitar.com reported that inside the pedal is the same circuitry as the original Tumnus Deluxe, so the controls, the active three-band EQ and the Normal/Hot switch all work the same way. The Spooky version carries a black-on-black jack-o-lantern and bat design with the Wampler logo and pedal name in orange, and it was sold as a limited edition.
Is the Wampler Spooky Tumnus Deluxe true bypass?
It can be. Guitar.com reported that the pedal offers a choice between an articulate-sounding buffer or true-bypass operation, and Guitar World noted a side-mounted control for switching between the two modes. That lets you set the pedal to suit the rest of your board.
What does the Hot switch do on the Tumnus Deluxe?
According to Guitar World, the Normal/Hot switch takes the pedal from standard operation to higher amounts of drive, effectively giving you a second, hotter voice alongside the gain knob.
Is the Spooky Tumnus Deluxe a Klon clone?
Wampler's Tumnus line is widely discussed among players as Klon-style overdrive territory, and Guitar Pedal X includes the Tumnus Deluxe in its Klon Klone collection. The Spooky Tumnus Deluxe uses the same circuitry as the Tumnus Deluxe, so it sits in that same family of transparent overdrive/boost pedals.
Is the Spooky Tumnus Deluxe a limited edition?
Yes. Guitar World reported in October 2019 that Wampler was outfitting the Tumnus Deluxe with a limited-edition spooky design, and the pedal was launched as a Halloween-themed version of the Tumnus Deluxe.
