The Warm Audio Centavo Mod is a compact high-headroom professional overdrive pedal: a slimmed-down version of Warm Audio's Centavo, built around the same circuit as what the maker calls "the most sought-after overdrive pedal of all time." Warm Audio says the Mod delivers "the true-to-original sound, response, and playing experience of the Centavo in a significantly smaller" footprint, with top-mounted jacks to suit crowded pedalboards.1
Same circuit, smaller box
Inside, Warm Audio says the circuit design and component choices remain completely unchanged from the original Centavo, preserving the same authentic signal path. The difference is the enclosure: the Mod trades the full-sized housing for a significantly smaller one with top-mounted jacks, aimed at players who want the Centavo's sound on a crowded board.1
What it does to your sound
Warm Audio describes the Centavo Mod as comfortable acting as a boost pedal, with saturation in the higher gain settings providing a platform for true "transparent" overdriven rhythm tones. The maker lists its applications as guitar boost, always-on clean boost, paired with drives, and mid-gain overdrive.1
The rear-panel MOD switch carries over from the full-sized Centavo. It extends the bass response for added low-end drive and weight on the lower strings, a switch Warm Audio notes was famously requested by Jeff Beck on the original.1
On the board
Warm Audio's demo material for the Centavo Mod covers getting started with classic sounds, biting overdrive, clean boost, edge-of-breakup and hard-clipper uses, giving a picture of the range the pedal covers from light boost into higher-gain saturation.1
