The Stoned Grasshopper Holiday Special is a limited edition version of the Stoned Grasshopper from Wilson Effects, a three-in-one pedal that puts fuzz, overdrive and clean boost in a single enclosure. The Holiday Special build is housed in the older Fuzz MKIII enclosure and is listed as a fuzz pedal1. It was priced at $145.00 on the maker's site as of October 19, 20261.
What it does
The standard Stoned Grasshopper combines three effects that Wilson Effects describes as rock and blues essentials: overdrive, clean boost and fuzz. The maker describes the boost section as a MOSFET-based booster, delivering what the maker calls pure, transparent gain that can push a clean tube amp into natural overdrive or add headroom to an already overdriven amp23.
The pedal is built as a three-footswitch stompbox, so each section has its own switch. Paolo De Gregorio of Delicious Audio described it as "a three footswitch stompbox that combines Boost, Overdrive and Fuzz in one box"4. The sections can be used alone or stacked in any combination, which is the core of the design: a player can run the boost into the overdrive into the fuzz, or pick just one.
"the fact that you can use them all at once, or in any combination of the three, makes this silver box a truly special ingredient in the sonic stew that is your pedalboard"
Controls
The boost section is the simplest to drive: Pedal of the Day described Boost mode as "a one-knob controlled MOSFET circuit that gives you sparkling clean boost to your original signal"5. The overdrive and fuzz sections have their own controls on the standard version, covered on the Stoned Grasshopper product page2.
How it compares
The Holiday Special differs from the standard Stoned Grasshopper only in its enclosure, using the older Fuzz MKIII housing1. Players looking at Wilson Effects' fuzz range may also cross-shop the Knuckle Dragger, the Not The NotRite or the Mordant, and the boost and overdrive sections alone relate to the wider fields of boost pedals and overdrive pedals.
