The Wilson Effects Sukhasana is a handmade overdrive pedal built on the vintage Marshall Bluesbreaker circuit, with more gain on tap than the original design and mod switches that let you reshape the clipping on the fly. Wilson Effects lists it at $150.00 as of 26 October 20261.

What it is and how it differs from a stock Bluesbreaker

The Bluesbreaker circuit it draws from is a low-gain overdrive design. Guitar.com's review of the original Marshall pedal described it as "a much lower-gain overdrive than the Guv'nor"3, and RockBoard's PedalPedia notes the original "seeks to emulate the velvety and warm overdrive tones reminiscent of the iconic Marshall Bluesbreaker amplifier"4. Tone Island's AdamConnell characterizes the Blues Breaker type as "a fairly transparent overdrive pedal but with more low-end than a tubescreamer and less mids than a klon"5.

Wilson Effects says that at the core of the Sukhasana "you'll find one of the most popular vintage Blues circuits ever built," and that the maker has "bent the circuit to provide the user with a bit more gain"1. The pedal is also a redesign of Wilson's original Black Tooth Grin2.

Two departures from the stock design define the pedal:

  • Mod Switches: swap diode sets in and out of the stock circuit to alter the pedal's gain structure and response2
  • Treble Control: works alongside the tone control to fine-tune high frequencies, which Wilson says addresses the limitations of the original circuit2

Wilson also notes that "the Bluesbreaker tone has been a staple sound of the likes of Eric Clapton, John Mayer and countless others throughout history"1. For another recent take on a modifiable Bluesbreaker-style circuit from the same maker, see the Wilson Effects Capstone, and for the original pedal itself see the Marshall Blues Breaker. Power, bypass and buying details

The Sukhasana runs on a 9VDC 2.1mm center-negative power supply and has no battery option12. True bypass keeps the signal path untouched when the pedal is off2.

There is no battery option, so the Sukhasana needs a 9VDC center-negative supply rather than running on a battery like some pedals do12.

Questions

Does the Wilson Effects Sukhasana take a battery?

No. Wilson Effects specifies that the Sukhasana operates on a 9VDC 2.1mm center-negative power supply and has no battery option. Plan for a dedicated or properly rated daisy-chain output on your pedalboard power supply.

Is the Sukhasana true bypass?

Yes. Wilson Effects lists the Sukhasana as true bypass, which the maker says maintains pure signal integrity when the pedal is off.

What power supply does the Wilson Sukhasana need?

A 9VDC power supply with a 2.1mm center-negative connector, the standard barrel format used by most pedalboard power supplies. There is no battery option.

How is the Sukhasana different from a stock Bluesbreaker pedal?

Wilson Effects says the circuit is bent to provide a bit more gain than the stock Bluesbreaker design, and the pedal adds mod switches that swap sets of diodes in and out of the circuit to alter the gain structure and response, along with a treble control that works alongside the tone control to fine-tune high frequencies.

Where is the Wilson Effects Sukhasana made?

Each Sukhasana is handmade by Wilson Effects in Guilford, Indiana, and ships via USPS Priority mail.
