The Honey Coma Fuzz is a fuzz pedal from Zero G IOD, handmade in Ohio, that takes its circuit from the Roland Bee Baa, the 1970s fuzz that was also Roland's first fuzz pedal, released in 1972, the same year the company was established12. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio describes the original as "a unique, and rather gnarly, combination of Fuzz and Treble Booster," and calls the Honey Coma Fuzz "a variant of it"1. Pedal of the Day reviewed it in July 2022 as a fuzz "Based on some old hooved honey producer of a fuzz known as the BeeBaa"3.

A fuzz with two voices

The two voices are the heart of the pedal. The first, as De Gregorio describes it, "is thick and heavy with some mid-scooping," while "the second one activated the high-frequency boost, making the sound thinner and a little more nasal"1. That pairing mirrors the Bee Baa's own split personality: a fuzz on one setting and a treble booster on the other, which is why the pedal sits between a conventional fuzz and a boost rather than squarely in either camp.

Compared with the unit it is based on, the Honey Coma Fuzz goes further. "There is more available fuzz on tap than the original and this thing is loud!"1. Pedal of the Day's review says much the same: "There is more available fuzz on tap than the original unit it's based on, and it gets LOUD!"3. The same review adds a broader verdict:

"There's a beautiful quality about this fuzz, which features a ton of sustain alongside its output power"
Pedal of the Day, 20223

The controls and footswitches

The pedal is operated with two footswitches and two knobs:

  • Left footswitch: selects between the two tone sections, one thick and heavy with mid scooping, the other thinner and more nasal13
  • Right footswitch: effect bypass1
  • Tone knob: fine-tuning of the high frequencies1
  • Wool knob: fine-tuning of the mid and low frequencies1

Pedal of the Day sums up the knobs this way: "The Tone and Wool controls will shape your sound, taming the highs and accentuating some mids and lows"3. All jacks sit up top, which helps the pedal fit tightly on a crowded board1.

Power and practicalities

The Honey Coma Fuzz runs on "the standard boss style 2.1mm power supply, +9v only, no battery snap"1. That means a place on a standard pedalboard power supply, but no battery option, so it will not run unplugged on a bare floorboard setup.

There is no battery snap in this pedal. A 9V center-negative adapter or a pedalboard power output is required.

History: from the Roland Bee Baa

The Bee Baa lineage matters to what this pedal is. The Roland AF-100 Bee Baa was "Roland's first fuzz pedal from 1972, the same year they were established as a company"2. Premier Guitar called the original "a vintage icon" in a 2012 press release4, and Pedal of the Day, reviewing the AF-100 itself in June 2022, called it "one of the classic icons of great vintage fuzz pedals"5. The circuit has kept players' attention since: Cris Vincent of Sehat Effectors told Premier Guitar in 2025, "I had picked up a Roland BeeBaa, which has a fuzz and a treble booster"6. The Honey Coma Fuzz is Zero G IOD's take on that same two-voice formula, with more fuzz available and a louder output than the original13. Players comparing it directly with the source circuit can read more on the Roland AF-100 BeeBaa Fuzz and Treble Booster page.

Buying one

The pedal is made to order. "Made to order. All pedals ship within 1-2 weeks of order date"1. Pedal of the Day, which demoed the pedal in 2022, looked back on it favorably the following year: "We really liked the Honey Coma Fuzz we demoed last year from Zero G IOD"7.

Questions

What is the Zero G IOD Honey Coma Fuzz based on?

It is based on the Roland Bee Baa, Roland's fuzz pedal from the 1970s. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio describes the Honey Coma Fuzz as a variant of the Bee Baa circuit, replicating its two tone sections and adding more available fuzz on tap than the original unit. Pedal of the Day likewise reviewed it as a fuzz based on the BeeBaa.

Does the Honey Coma Fuzz take a battery?

No. The pedal has no battery snap. Delicious Audio notes this with the line "no battery snap, sorry, help us protect the planet!", so players run it on an external 9V power supply rather than an internal battery.

What does the Wool knob do?

The Wool knob allows fine-tuning of the mid and low frequencies, according to Delicious Audio. It works alongside the Tone knob, which fine-tunes the high frequencies. Pedal of the Day describes the pair as shaping your sound, taming the highs and accentuating some mids and lows.

What power supply does the Honey Coma Fuzz need?

It accepts the standard Boss-style 2.1mm power supply at +9V only. There is no battery snap, so a center-negative 9V adapter is the only way to power it. Most standard pedalboard power supplies that offer a 9V 2.1mm output will suit it.

Where is the Honey Coma Fuzz made?

The Honey Coma Fuzz is handmade in Ohio, as Delicious Audio's product page puts it: "Handmade in Ohio!" Pedal of the Day's 2022 review also describes it as handmade in Ohio.

How long does a made-to-order Zero G pedal take to ship?

The Honey Coma Fuzz is made to order, and according to Delicious Audio all pedals ship within 1 to 2 weeks of the order date. Buyers should expect that build window before the pedal arrives rather than immediate stock shipping.
