The Zoom B1on is a compact bass multi-effects pedal: a single stompbox-sized unit that carries 100 bass effects and amp models, from which up to five can be used simultaneously, chained together in any order1. It is made by Zoom, a maker with a long line of multi-effects pedals for bass and guitar.
Zoom lists the B1on as discontinued: "This product has been discontinued"1. Used and remaining stock aside, the company's current bass line includes the Zoom B1 Four, Zoom B1X Four, Zoom B1X4 and Zoom 3000B.
What it does
The B1on is a bass pedal in the multi-effects mold. Instead of one circuit doing one job, it gathers a library of effects and amp models in one box, and Zoom states that 100 bass effects and amp models are on board1. That covers the ground a bass player normally fills a board with: compression, drive, modulation, filtering and more, the kinds of effects found on dedicated compressor, overdrive, chorus and filter pedals.
Its defining feature is how those effects combine. Zoom describes the B1on as allowing 5 effects to be used simultaneously, chained together in any order1. In practice that means a player can build a chain, for example compressor into drive into chorus, and arrange the order to taste, rather than accepting a fixed signal path. It is the same core idea behind the wider multi-effects pedals category, in a format sized like a single stompbox.
