The Zoom B1X4 is a bass multi-effects pedal voiced for bass, shown at Winter NAMM 2019. It sits in Zoom's line of compact multi-effects units alongside the Zoom B1 Four and Zoom B1X Four, and belongs to the broader family of multi-effects pedals that pack several effect types into one floor unit1.

What it does

The B1X4 carries the same bass voicing as its siblings in the line. In a Sweetwater demo video from the show, Mitch Gallagher and John from Zoom introduced it as part of the family: "we also have those voice for bass as well the B1 X4 and b14"1.

Its distinguishing feature is the built-in expression pedal, which the B1 Four lacks. As John from Zoom put it, "we also have the B1 X4 which has the expression pedal on that one as well"1.

How the expression pedal works

The expression pedal is assignable, but not to any parameter. It works across a group of set pedal effects rather than arbitrary controls. John from Zoom explained: "not any parameter we have uh a group of pedal effects like was volume uh there's a delay where you can control the feedb"1.

In practice that means the pedal handles the classic pedal-controlled effects, such as:

rather than reaching into every knob of every effect in a patch.
