Analog Man and Colby Amplification release the OG-1 overdrive pedal

January 1, 2025 · 1 sources

Analog Man and Colby Amplification introduced the Colby OG-1, an overdrive pedal based on the Boss OD-1, as new for 2025. Analog Man describes the OG-1 as a collaboration with Colby Amplification and a tribute to the early OD-1, one of the first Boss Compact pedals, released in 19771.

The pedal has true bypass switching and two knobs, Level and Overdrive. It runs on a battery or a normal 9V Boss-type power supply, with the power jack on the side. Analog Man says it uses less than 4 mA of power when off and 6 when on, so an alkaline battery will last over a hundred hours of normal playing time. The jacks are on the top of the pedal, and the input and output jacks are hand wired RE'AN parts. The indicator light is described as super bright but frosted so it does not blind the player1.

Analog Man says the OG-1 is hand wired with all through-hole parts for easy repairs and uses original new old stock 1980s Raytheon RC3403ADB chips and 1S2473 diodes. The enclosure is a Hammond unit with a yellow factory finish that Analog Man says is quite close to the OD-1. The maker states that the OG-1 uses an audio taper volume pot for easier control of the level, so levels may need to be set differently when comparing it with an old OD-11.

"Our OG-1 is a tribute to the early OD-1, with all the same parts except we have added true bypass."

Analog Man writes that the OD-1 was one of his favorite pedals in the late 1980s, and that Mitch Colby, then working at Korg/Marshall, sold him an OD-1 and possibly a CE-1 more than 30 years ago. The name OG-1 stands for "Original Gangster," according to the maker1. The manual gives no price or ship date.
