Anasounds has released the Utopia Deluxe, an upgraded version of its Utopia delay built around the PT2399 chip, the maker has announced. Delicious Audio described it on February 21, 2024 as a limited edition, updated and upgraded version of the company's "regular" Utopia, which it called the company's best-selling unit to date1.
The maker says it redesigned the original Utopia circuit from the ground up with a new voicing. The pedal has a tap tempo footswitch that can also trigger self-oscillating infinite repeats, and three subdivisions including dotted eighth. A Tone setting adjusts the repeats from brighter to darker. A built-in preamp, which the maker compares to a vintage Echoplex, has a knob for volume and gain and a switch for always on, always off, or on when the delay is active2. Delicious Audio describes the preamp as voiced after the circuit in vintage Echoplex tape echos, with three gain settings on a toggle switch1.
The central Bliss knob controls modulation in three zones: tape echo, chorus and vibrato. The maker says the effect zone sets depth and speed automatically for usable sounds, from barely audible to dramatic2. Delicious Audio places subtle tape style in the first third of the knob's range, chorus in the second third and vibrato in the last third1.
"We redesigned the original Utopia circuit from the ground up, with a brand new voicing for an even more musical delay that's more fun to play and fully exploits the potential of the famous PT2399 chip."
The maker lists the pedal at 299,00 € and in stock, with dimensions of 10 by 10 by 10 cm2. No US list price was given in the sources. The maker says the original Utopia has stayed on its best-selling list since 2015, and that players had requested a version with tap tempo2.
