Asheville Music Tools announced the AFG-1, a 100 percent analog bucket brigade flanger, in a listing on its site dated June 13, 202312. The maker calls it "a 100% analog dynamic flanger with some unique differentiating features"1.
The pedal uses a 256-stage MN3009 high-voltage BBD chip powered by an internal 15V supply12. The maker says the chip is an Xvive reissue MN30091. The AFG-1 is built with over 380 components, and its clock, modulation, oscillator and switch logic are all analog12. The maker describes the LFO as having a true sine wave shape and a synthesizer-style exponential converter12.
The maker lists these controls12:
| Control | Function |
|---|---|
| FREQ | Delay time from about 0.52ms to 13.5ms, expanded to 0.33ms to 85ms with expression pedal, control voltages, LFO or envelope controls |
| Feedback | Deepens the comb effect; at maximum settings the maker says it can create oscillating tuned pitches |
| Rate | LFO rate from 0.01Hz to 8Hz, or faster with an expression pedal |
| Amount | Sets the LFO's influence on the FREQ control |
| Drive | A version of the drive circuit from the maker's ADG-1 pedal |
| Envelope | Sets dynamic flanging that follows playing |
| ENV toggle | Three attack/release curves for the envelope |
| Phase toggle | Three settings: Airplane, Swirl and Phase |
| Expression switch | Four-position rotary switch assigning expression or CV control to Freq, Feedback, Rate or Amount |
The maker says the envelope control is "very rarely found in pedal format flangers" and traces it to 1970s rackmount flangers1. An internal switch selects true bypass or JFET buffered bypass12. The expression jack accepts an expression pedal or a 0-5V CV input2.
The AFG-1 is listed at $397.00 and was marked sold out on the maker's site1. The maker's page lists two finishes, Whetstone Rock Bronze and Black1.
"The Analoger™ Series AFG-1 is a 100% analog dynamic flanger with some unique differentiating features."
