Becos FX releases CompIQ Twain Pro Compressor MK2

July 30, 2024 · 2 sources

Becos FX announced the CompIQ Twain Pro Compressor MK2, a dual-band and stacked compressor pedal for bass, guitar or any electric instrument, on 30 July 2024. The maker said it "can be purchased directly from our shop or select retailers starting with 30 July 2024"1.

The pedal runs two independent 4320 THAT Analog Engines with RMS-level sensors paired with Blackmer VCAs, and works either as a dual-band compressor or as two compressors stacked in series12. A variable 70Hz to 1kHz Linkwitz-Riley crossover splits the bands, and each band has its own ratio, threshold, make-up gain, soft or hard knee, and Auto Fast or Auto Slower timing presets1. A multi-function switch selects Feed Forward, Feed-Back or a combined mode, with Feed Forward on the lows and Feed-Back on the highs1. Side-chain filters cut or boost the lows (±12dB at 90Hz, 12dB per octave) and highs (±7dB at 3kHz, 12dB per octave), and a dry/wet mix knob allows parallel compression in either mode12. Each band has a 6-LED gain reduction display, and the footswitch is true bypass1.

The MK2 removes the two saturation engines on the dry line that were in the MK1, and adds the feed forward and feed-back switching, the side-chain filters, an input preamp with ±12dB of trim and a peak level indicator for input and output1. The optional DITOS transformer-coupled balanced output has a 10KΩ impedance and can also serve as a floating unbalanced output1. The circuit uses Burr Brown FET technology, which Guitar Pedal X reported was chosen for low noise given the crossover circuitry2.

The enclosure is black-powdered aluminum, made by Hammond, and the pedal is hand-assembled in Vienna, Austria12. It runs on an external 9-18V DC supply, center negative, with a 12mm long barrel plug, not included1. Guitar Pedal X listed consumption below 170mAh, dimensions of 105 by 120 by 54mm and a weight of 275g, or 395g with DITOS2. The warranty is three years, direct to the manufacturer, international and transferable1.

"After a long absence due to our relocation to Vienna, Austria, and after a careful redesign of the circuit, we're happy to announce the CompIQ Twain Pro (MK2) Dual-Band / Stacked Compressor Pedal for bass, guitar, or any electric instruments."
