Beetronics and Third Man Hardware release limited Old Zoo Lion Meat fuzz

July 1, 2026 · 3 sources

Third Man Hardware and Beetronics launched a new limited run of the Old Zoo Lion Meat Fuzz pedal, housed in a tuna can-style enclosure1. They built 333 units, priced at $150 each, sold exclusively online via Reverb, and all sold out very quickly1. Guitar.com reported the pedal was on sale for $150 and was sold out at the time of writing2; Guitar World reported the same price and that the drop had already sold out3.

The pedal follows the same idea as Beetronics' Tuna Fuzz, renamed and given a new graphic by Rob Jones, who collaborated with Jack White on the design1. The design is based on the Samson and the Lion tale1, and the pedal ships in a blister pack1. Guitar World described the packaging as "an over-the-top blister pack" designed to look like a vintage meat label3. Guitar.com reported that the can's artwork was designed by Rob Jones, also known as Animal Rummy, who often works with White2.

It has a single knob labeled the Phlegmatic Roar, which controls the overall output of the fuzz circuit1. Guitar.com reported that once the Phlegmatic Roar knob is set for output volume, fuzz control is determined by the guitar's volume knob2. Guitar World reported that turning the dial sets overall output volume while fuzz is dictated by the guitar's volume knob, promising an articulate clean when rolled back and a "roaring wall of vintage fuzz" at its most extreme3. Beetronics created a bee-themed PCB for the circuit1; Guitar.com and Guitar World both reported that a transparent bottom cover shows the circuit board bearing the image of a bee23.

"Eat up, then plug in to give your guitar a belly full of bees, like the carcass of Samson's legendary leonine corpse."
Guitar World, citing a statement from the collaboration3
