BOSS has added the SY-200 to its 200 series, a polyphonic synth pedal for guitar and bass. Delicious Audio reported the pedal on April 16, 2024, describing it as built on the polyphonic circuit of the smaller SY-11.
BOSS lists 171 sounds in 12 analog-style categories: LEAD, PAD, STRING, BELL, ORGAN, BASS, DUAL, SWEEP, NOISE, SFX, SEQ and ARPEGGIO2. Each sound has three parameters adjustable by dedicated knobs, and the pedal stores 128 memories2. Delicious Audio adds that the three assignable knobs sit alongside three fixed controls: Dry Level, Effect Level and Variation1.
BOSS says the SY-200 needs no special pickup and runs with a standard 1/4-inch cable, and claims latency-free performance from its custom DSP2. The pedal has selectable modes for guitar or bass, independent level controls for blending synth and direct signal, and a parallel send/return loop2. Two customizable footswitches handle synth on/off, memory scrolling, pitch bend and synth hold, with an assignable Memory/CTL 1 switch2. External control runs to two footswitches or an expression pedal, and MIDI I/O uses 3.5 mm TRS jacks, with cables sold separately2. A micro USB jack handles firmware updates, and the pedal runs on a PSA-series adaptor or three AA batteries2.
"Offering a universe of rich, analog-inspired polyphonic tones in a small footprint, the SY-200 makes it simple to weave BOSS's expressive guitar and bass synth technology into all of your musical journeys."
BOSS frames the SY-200 as building on the SY-1: "Building on the fun, instant-gratification experience of the acclaimed SY-1"2. Delicious Audio describes the SY-1 as the SY-200's "little sibling"1. Neither source gives a US price or a ship date.
