The Catalinbread SuperCharged Overdrive Legacy Edition is a reissue of one of the first pedals released by the Portland builder, with some updates and new features1. Delicious Audio reported the release on November 8, 20231.
The original circuit, described as featuring eight MOSFET devices stacked into one another, has been redesigned to allow for a more dynamic gain range1. A Tilt EQ was added, which works with the Contour knob to widen the pedal tonal palette; the Contour works as an addition-by-subtraction mids control1. Guitar Pedal X reports that the same core 8 x MOSFET gain stage topology remains, and lists the controls as Tilt EQ, Contour (Mids + Resonance), Volume and Gain, with the Tilt EQ pivoting around the 800Hz mark2. Guitar Pedal X also states that the SuperCharged Overdrive was first released around 2009 as a three-knob pedal with Volume, Gain and Contour controls2.
Guitar Pedal X reported a price of $149.99 versus a usual $174.99, per the Catalinbread Webstore2. No availability date is given in either report.
"The new one is significantly re-tooled with numerous refinements to the circuit - including an entirely new Tilt EQ control and with more range overall, while the same core 8 x MOSFET gain stage topology remains."
Guitar Pedal X described the pedal as "a really full-throated, thick and juicy amp-like overdrive with an incredibly high degree of shaping"2. The Catalinbread SuperCharged Overdrive Legacy Edition sits among the builder's overdrive pedals; the earlier SuperCharged is the model it reissues1.
